I had my first scan yesterday and I was told I do have fibroids biggest being 5cm, this is my second pregnancy and I didn't have them with my first so it came as a bit of a shock especially because my dd is only 19 months i didn't think they would develop that quick. Does any one have any experience on fibroids during pregnancy is there any advice you can give me . Thanks

I have one that was there last pregnancy and still here during this one (I am 21 weeks). Mine has caused no issues at all and people have been completely unconcerned about it, but I think that is because it is high and out the way. Did they say where yours are?

I had one during my first pregnancy with my son and it caused no problems at all. They will consider you high risk though because of the potential of bleeding out after labour. So if you wanted a home birth they would suggest otherwise, you might even find you aren't allowed in the birthing pools in the midwife led unit. I was promised l sorts but when it came to it I was led to a bed in a small room and there I spent most of my labour. So it's not brilliant but I doubt it will impact on your pregnancy, just potentially your labour.

Hi I have three fibroids, the biggest being up to 7cm. I already knew I had them pre-pregnancy because I had ridiculously heavy periods.
My biggest one is near the cervix which may impede a normal birth-if you have roids you will be under the consultant and have a managed third stage due to risk of post-partum haemorrhage. You are more likely to need a CS they say but not necessarily as if you read old threads on here, plenty of women have a natural birth with them-depends where the roids are. I'm 35+4 and we find out next week if I need a CS as my baby's head may be unable to engage due to the roid.
I did have a heavy bleed at 14w but the cause was inconclusive. They haven't caused any pain although I did read that they can do. The only difference for us is more scans and unable to use MLU so I spose you may have to have a more conventional delivery.

I'm in the same boat as Chicken, more or less. They found a fibroid at 20w scan (I had no idea I had them) and, because of its position, was booked in for a 34w scan to check it's location, in case it's blocking baby's exit. Then I'll meet with the consultant at 36w to discuss the results and maybe be booked in for a CS if it is in the way. There seemed to be nothing to do in the meantime, because they can move around, shrink, grow etc. She also told me that I'm now consultant led and won't be able to give birth in the midwife unit. I was a bit miffed, but I'm so glad they found it now rather than when I'm trying (and failing) to push him out naturally.

Hallo, I've got fibroids too, they were spotted at an early viability scan as they make it hard to see baby. Everyone has said not to worry, they will probably make no difference at all. And that pregnancy is actually meant to help with them.

Thanks ladies, I will just take each day as it comes and try not to worry

Yep, I've got three, only discovered at 7 week early scan. Didn't cause any problems, I now have a three month old baby on my lap! I know my mum was in some discomfort with hers when expecting me, but I think that was because one got twisted. Ouch. Good luck.
