Reduced movement

Hi
I'm 38+1 with my fourth baby ( having a c-section on 12th )

Just wanting some advice. Saw midwife yesterday, she asked how the movement had been, i sid was a bit quiet than usual on sunday but i wasnt feeling great and notice that if i feel abit off the baby is a bit less active, however yesterday during the day i had the usual massive kicks and movements i always get on and off throughout the day.

Movements where perhaps a little less significant yesterday evening than they usually are but still noticable.

Today i had some in bed this morning, then nothing apart from one little movement until 3 ish. Have had a couple of sessions of rolling movements and two larger kicks since then so it has improved, not completely still but still not what im use to.

So, do you think i should ring them up, or monitor things and see how it goes? have been drinking cold drinks etc to try and move things up but doesnt seem to be helping.

Always worth a check -with dc3 I had the same-less movements -went for a walk and popped into see local midwife-she heard the heartbeat so reassured me however we still couldn't get baby moving. Went into hospital maternity unit and got checked - Urine showed I apparently hadn't been eating and drinking enough so baby had become a lot less active-all good though.

The midwives reassured me that that is what they are there for-always better to be safe that sorry -I think now they say it isnt always about number of kicks but more what you are used to -so if you have a very active baby and they are being very inactive worth a check.

Yes u would ring the midwives! Better to be safe than sorry but I'm sure there is just not a lot of room left for baby to move much

homeaway · 03/03/2015 18:43

Go and be checked it is really better to be safe.

I had period of reduced movement (couldn't feel him at all for a few hours) and called the labour ward (am 38 weeks) and was advised to lie in a quiet room on my left side for an hour after drinking an ice cold sugary drink (ie. can of coke) with no distractions and count the baby's movements. She also advised pressing gently around the bump with your fingers in a circular fashion (think this was to wake him up if he was sleeping). She said they were looking for at least 10 movements an hour. I counted over 32 but could have sworn that he was still earlier.

You could try this or give the labour ward a ring - they were fabulous and were very supportive. Made me feel loads better Flowers

Yes i will do that greenlizard once i've put the kids to bed in abit. If it doesnt pick up relatively soon i will definately be ringing in, its just i'm not saying there is no movement at all, there is its just im used to lots of larger significant movement and lots of little ones too, y'know, little taps, fingers, kicks etc and bigger rolling movements, and it just hasnt been that. There is always some kind of movement throughout the day.

Contact the hospital asap!

I had reduced movements with DD, I contacted the hospital to go in to be credit and had emcs within 1 hour of arrival at the hospital. If I'd got to hospital even 30 minutes later, things would have been very different.

MissDexter · 03/03/2015 19:14

*checked

tinymeteor · 03/03/2015 19:17

Worth a check, but don't panic. At 38 weeks it could just be that baby is packed in tighter so can't do the star jumps any more

gallicgirl · 03/03/2015 19:21

Gestation doesn't affect amount of movement, just how they feel.
Count the Kicks has a free app that can help you to monitor movement. If you have any doubt, please get monitored at hospital. They really won't mind.

tiaandlottie · 03/03/2015 20:00

Drank a bottle of coke, laid on side etc, got a bit more movement, but coke usually gets it going like billy-oh in there, so have rung them up and am going in to be monitored, just waiting for my mum to arrive to babysit the kids. Thanks for the replies nd advice. x

I went to the assessment unit soo many time even when I only had a little doubt they are always there to help and the reassurance that everything is fine is good for both you and baby I am totally sure all is fine but just call and Pop in !

Patatas · 03/03/2015 20:54

So glad you're going in for a check, always best to go if you feel things aren't quite right.

ChatEnOeuf · 03/03/2015 21:40

Thank goodness you're going in.

Counting to ten and running out of room are both out-of-date, nonsense advice. Know your baby, if something changes, up or down, get checked over.

tiaandlottie · 04/03/2015 07:26

Hiya
Just thought would let you know all is well with the baby :-) was at the hospital a good few hours being monitored and movement was showing up on their machines, i just couldn't feel it everytime. The said i did the right thing going in and to go in again if it re-occurs.

Thanks for all the advice. x
