Can a foetus get completely tied up in the umbilical cord thus stopping much movement?

You got it, I'm paranoid. But I'm trying to understand how come I had lots of lovely wriggly movement from 15w which then stopped at 16w except for the faintest flutter until last night (18w) when I got proper movement and then nothing for 24hrs!

Mw said to look for a pattern from 24w, so I don't think I really need to worry about it, but the 'tangled up in the cord' image is preying on my peace of mind.

Can anyone tell me to stop being ridiculous, or suggest a more rational explanation for such big gaps between movement?

Or share their paranoia!

ThanksDaffodil

Not sure abt the cord but I had similar gap and it might simply be that baby has turned facing inside and is kicking the inside uterus wall.
You only feel kicks affecting the front uterus wall.

They are so small at that stage and their movements so random that it really is a case of some days you can feel it and some days you can't. They have so much room and can tuck themselves away in little corners.

Even at 24 weeks the midwife told me that it was too early for a pattern. When she out the doppler on my stomach we could hear loads of movements that I couldn't feel.

Am now 27+4 and only just starting to get a pattern

Thank you zahrah Daffodil that's a much better image than the cord one!

I've felt movements since 13 weeks and now 19 weeks we seem to have gone quiet. Never had a pattern to his movements. I have a Doppler and his heartbeat is strong which reassures me a bit (although ctk say this alone isn't proof baby is happy-it's all I can do till later in pregnancy when hosp will monitor him) Roll on 24 weeks to hopefully establish a pattern.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 02/03/2015 08:02

I'm 18w and don't have a pattern. I've only felt flutters the last couple of weeks. I think this is still a bit early to feel full on movement

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 02/03/2015 08:12

The more rational explanation is that the baby is still so tiny that it has moved and it's feet are facing the back, or it's hidden away in a corner.

I'm 22 weeks and still no pattern really. Some days i feel a lot of movement, some day just wriggles and some days not a lot at all. I've been feeling movement since 15 weeks (2nd pregnancy).

The cord is designed so that tangling isn't possible ... It will loop around the body and slide free thanks to its thick jelly coating :) it is simply as the others have said and that if the baby kicks inwards and has his back to your front then you won't feel it ... give it time and you will be wishing for a break from having your ribs played like a xylophone :)

CaptainMorgansMistress · 02/03/2015 08:21

Agree with all the others but just to add to try to reassure you a little, the cord is covered in a slimy jelly like substance that is designed to help it slide over itself and the baby in order to prevent tangling.

Thank you for this image! I am feeling much better about it now.

I don't remember having such variation in my previous pregnancies, which is why I'm a bit paranoid! (Probably just forgotten, it was so long ago!)

Thanks all for your reassurances. DaffodilDaffodil

I find I'm Definitely more anxious this time around and it's #6 for me! I think the Internet and my need to read everything week by week is greatly to blame lol ... never concerned myself with reduced movement and counting kicks or anything in the other pregnancies :/
