Camping during pregnancy

My friends have invited me and my DH to go camping on the Easter weekend and I should be 10 wks by then. This is my second pregnancy, the first MC at 11 wks, so my DH is worried that I shouldn't be camping at all. We camped at a festival when I was about 8 wks last time without any problems. And I've insisted on the campsite having proper loos, hot showers and a cafe.

Has anyone else done much camping whilst preggers? Any advice for what to do or avoid?

I haven't camped while pg, but can't think of many reasons not to. If you are tired or suffering sickness or nausea it might not be fun - but then not much will be. But I can't think of any reasons it would be risky for the pregnancy as long as you don't eat any undercooked barbecue meat!

That's what I thought too, dh is just being over cautious cos of mc. I've pretty much been banned from cleaning and doing diy, and there's loads to do before this bean arrives. Oh well, can't really complain if him and MIL do it all instead Wink

I went camping at 9 weeks preg and was totally fine (37 weeks now) had no problems but chose to buy meals at local pubs etc rather than cooking bbq

I'll be spending a couple of nights in a campervan when 33 weeks. Only problem I can foresee is needing the loo in the night! I've had a mmc previously so understand your anxiety but really no risks from camping, just as pp said make sure food is stored and cooked correctly as you would at home.

I went to a festival at 10 weeks last time and was absolutely fine, then promptly began bleeding after I got home. It was definitely unrelated, though, development had stopped weeks before I went. I think camping on a nice site with facilities would be totally fine.

We went on a camping holiday last year to Scotland and Lake District (from Northampton) while I was about 14 weeks. It was absolutely fine, even managed to hike up Ben Nevis. Don't necessarily recommend that but I'm sure there won't be any issues, as everyone has said just take the same precautions with food and cooking as you would at home. Maybe invest in a shewee for the night time toilet trips?!

Went camping at 5.5 weeks and it was fine. The morning sickness wasn't yet in full swing so the fresh air helped. My only issue was that I kept needing the toilet and that wasn't much fun. (I ended up squatting outside the tent at night rather than walk over in the dark on my own.) I wouldn't do it now at 33 weeks with a huge bump - have enough trouble getting comfy in a bed.

I'm planning to go camping for a week when I'll be 7 months... I'll just take extra comfy mattress/ pillows.

I'm sure it'll be fine.

And I'll be experiencing that 'glow' by then!

Good luck, op, hope it goes well and you enjoy yourself.

Thanks for all your advice ladies, I particularly like the shewee suggestion helpful, I'm getting myself one of them Smile. my mates are more pub grub than bbq so the food situation should be manageable but they are a bit starved of hills normally so I may need to feign recovering from a knee injury so that don't have me climbing over boulders like last I went walking with them!

It would be a bit easier if I could tell them I'm preg but they're a couple who don't have children and its unclear if that's an agreed situation or not. Either it could spark a row between them or the weekend away could been seen as one last hurrah until our offspring are independent of us.
