How do you make your milk stop?

Hi currently 4 days after birth my boobs have filled up like 2 bowling balls they are huge and really really sore to touch.
Has anyone any tips of how to make the milk go away or at least make it bearable til it passes (I'm bottle feeding so really don't need milky boobs)

I've just been through this- it's called gorging and they don't stay like that. It'll last up to 5 days then ease. I found going in the bath and soaking a flannel in the hottest water you can stand and then putting it on your boobs helped to sooth them. It is awful tho. Mine are just starting to hurt a little less after 3 days xx

I've heard cabbage leaves soothe enforcement and reduce supply.

Lansinoh also do a really good breast so other thing that can be frozen or warmed (to treat mastitis) it can really relieve sore boobs though.

*breast pad thing

Not much you can do, you can hand express a tiny amount to ease the pressure.

I breastfed my 1st baby but think im bottle feeding this one can the doctor prescribe anything or is there over the counter products you can take to dry the milk up ? X

Warm water will encourage your milk supply I found so avoid getting them wet in the shower etc. A really supportive bra helps and pain killers if they're really sore. Mine lasted about a week then suddenly were back to normal so I hope you aren't suffering for too long!

Ooh also, My supply took a dive when I went on anti histamines but it's probably not a great idea to take medicine you font need!Grin

Sage tea is supposed to be good too. Try the health food shop for it.

I went through that after having had dd, honestly it doesn't last very long although I know your pain, it does hurt. The most important tip I was given was to under no circumstances express any milk as this will send the message to the body that the milk supply is needed and will prompt the body to produce more.

Cool flannels or even bags of frozen peas in a tea towel can help relieve the pressure. If I remember correctly I leaked for about 10 days after having had dd but the engorgement pain only lasted about 5-6 days. When it stopped it disappeared very quickly, almost overnight, so that was good.

No gps won't prescribe medication for reducing milk supply, use warm flannel, hand expression and cabbage leaves to reduce enforcement.

dragonfly007 · 25/02/2015 09:27

Engorgement not enforcement!

My mw recommended savoy cabbage leaf. One in each cup of your bra.
It worked for me

blackwidow74 · 25/02/2015 09:40

Speak to your local chemist about over counter help with drying up milk supply ... meantime express just enough off to feel comfortable but don't go beyond that as it will then replace as if you fed prolonging the issue ... stroke the beast in a downward motion to get the flow rather than squeeze nipper area which will make it even more sore

These will help:

Frozen cabbage leaves
Peppermint oil on breast
Sudafed decongestant tablets
Sage tea
