Dp is going away tomorrow on a much awaited, saved up for yonks, completely deserved trip for 4 days.
I'm just starting to have a bit of a wobble, as I'm 32 weeks pregnant, with SPD on crutches and have 2 dcs (8 and 10) to look after.
Please someone tell me to man up because I can't tell dp, he'll cancel the trip and I don't want him to.
DM lives round the corner, I can still drive so school runs aren't a problem, and the kids are old enough to help with housework so I don't know why I'm worried.

I completely understand how you are feeling. Dh has just booked a boys holiday that in fairness he has been planning way before I got pregnant, but he's going when I'm going to be around 30wks. It annoys me that he could leave me alone for three days at that time. It's our first baby and I'm already anxious!
But you seem to be fairly understanding and have a good plan.

adognamedboo · 25/02/2015 12:01

I'm sure we shall both be fine, I remember the anxiety I felt with dc1 in the later stages.
I'm looking forward to my girls holiday once this one is old enough Smile

My partner works away and is currently only home every fortnight for 2 nights. It is awful being away from each other but treat the few days as a break for you and kids too. We love going to amusements and having fish and chips after school run, breaks down my day. Keep yourself as busy (with nice things) as bump and spd will let you, the days will fly by x

8 + 10 Yr old DS's can look after you OP, feet up and hog the bed and tv Grin

I understand why you're nervous - it's probably the potential for something to happen that you're freaking out about.

I'd be using DM as much as humanely possible and use the 4 days to teach your kids that making their own dinner and cleaning the house can be SO MUCH FUN! Grin

I understand too, my DH was away last night and I'm 31 weeks, I'd been having regular braxton hicks over the weekend so I'm now on watch for any signs of early labour.

But you just have to get through it as you said, you want him to go and enjoy himself too so :)

Jemimapuddlemuck · 25/02/2015 15:41

DH went away when I was 30 weeks and had a 3 year old, he'd planned it when I was in early pregnancy and I was fine with it but I didn't know I would have SPD, BH's from 26 weeks onwards, oh and 8 inches of snow outside! I was pissed off about it TBH but I realise that was a little unreasonable as none of those things were his fault. I still wanted him to cancel deep down although I never would have said so! You will be fine, maybe try and get people over to visit (the kind who won't expect to be waited on!). My lovely.friend came over and brought our dinner and played with DS which gave me a real boost. Reading with interest. I will be around 32 weeks with my first when my DH goes away for 10 nights Sad I'm hoping I won't have any problems as he is volunteering rather than holidaying, so for him to cancel would have serious repercussions for the trip as a whole. Am I being naive in thinking I will still be ok at that stage? I could invite DM or MIL to stay for a few days I suppose. Maybe that's asking for trouble, I do like my own space!

Am I mad for not being too worried about DH going away for 3 days to Malaga (stag party, his best man) when I am 35 weeks? - He is also missing first NCT class for this.
The jury is still out on whether he is going to the wedding (in Luxembourg) when I am 39 weeks.

Siarie · 25/02/2015 16:37

boatrace not mad! If it works for you then it does.

I know my DH was anxious leaving as he told me and he has told work he won't be going anywhere the month I'm due. But if we were both comfortable with it then that would be that Smile

When I was 8 months pg with dc2 and dc1 was 4, the London riots happened. We live in Norfolk but all public order trained officers were called at midnight and told to pack an overnight bag and head for their nearest HQ. DH was gone for 9 nights. He only managed to phone twice. I dealt with my fear of anything going wrong or ds coming early by pretending it wasn't happening. Denial is a useful and powerful tool Grin.

Nah. If you're happy then that's fine. :) DP is talking about a business trip when I'm 37 weeks and I told him as long as he's able to get home in under 5 hours I'd let him know if I had any twangs... He's only going to London from Scotland though so slightly different but I'd look and see how many flights back there is from Malaga and make a judgement call on that. :)

Guyropes · 25/02/2015 16:52

It will be an empowering experience. It's great knowing that you can manage without your oh around.

adognamedboo · 25/02/2015 17:39

Well he's helped me organise the house so I can reach everything, and is going soon. I think it's the SPD that's bothering me most, the stairs are a chuffing nightmare.
I have friends lined up to visit and an evening out with DM and the DCs Friday. Bless them they're well up for cooking their own dinners SmileSmile

OH actually has two weeks away on a course a month after baby is due (I am having a c-section so know dates)

He will only be home for weekends. I feel sad about that!

scarednoob · 26/02/2015 18:29

would it help to think of things he hates that you can get away with doing?? sleep like a starfish and snore like a tramp; paint your toenails in the lounge; eat something that he can't stand the smell of; take a really nice long relaxing bath when the others are in bed AND EAT CHOCOLATE IN IT?!

adognamedboo · 27/02/2015 10:52

There have been a few tears, but both dcs are still alive Smile
I blame the hormones Blush
