Hi guys,
I know this might be early but I'm trying to get pregnant and am really worried about things like stretch marks and other negative things associated with pregnancy. I'm trying to be positive but getting stretch marks really worries me. My got got stretch marks when she had me (she had three of us), but having talked to her, I was told that she didn't use any moisturisers and used to scratch her stomach (which I've heard is a total no no). I have some stretch marks on my bum from growing but they have faded away with time and exfoliation, so they don't bother me overly much.
I may be being paranoid as Im not even pregnant yet, but any expectant mothers or mums who can advise me regarding pregnancy care for stretch marks? I've heard that using bio oil (thrice a day) and drinking at least 8-10 glasses of water can reduce your chances of getting stretch marks even if you're pre-disposed to them? Please advise.

If your going to get stretch marks during pregnancy u will get them no matter what. U could spend a thousand pounds on special creams and drink litres of water and it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference,

I can't help but feel sad and a little annoyed that your worrying about stretch marks when it's such an honour to be able to a) get pregnant, b)carry the baby and c) deliver a healthy baby.

Worrying about your personal appearance sounds quite selfish in my honest opinion.

Nothing will prevent you getting stretch marks, if your gonna get them you'll get them! Don't think because you already have some you'll get more because that's not how it works, I have some on hips/bum/thighs from years ago but have zero through pregnancy, pregnant with my 2nd child and still none!

If you do get stretch marks through pregnancy then it's not the end of the world, you'll have a gorgeous baby at the end of it that you've created and lovingly grew within you and when the baby is here that's all that will matter, not what marks you've got or whatever pregnancy put you through! You'll be too in love with your little bundle that you won't care about the rest!

Hey I have stretch marks on my bum so thought I must be 'prone' to get them. I didn't get any in my first pregnancy and none so far in this one (touch wood) at 29 weeks. And I've been scratching like crazy!!
I don't think there's anything you can do though, if you're going to get them then you're going to get them. Embrace them!

I didn't get them and my sister did. Stretch marks though are least of your worries, I have a mis shapen c section scar and make sure you didn't read the prolapse threads!

Stretch marks are the least of your worries....My foof and boobs will never be the same again! Confused Totally worth it though (oh and I managed to escape stretch marks... Like others have suggested, you either get them or you don't).

I agree it's hereditary. Also agree stretch marks are 1) the tip of the iceberg 2) not that big a deal

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for taking out the time to respond to my post.
jennyB123 : I respect your opinion and agree that getting pregnant and having a baby is a privilege, but its also a scary time. And different people worry about different things. However, thanks for your comments.
M27J5M and others, thank you for your advise and opinion. It's just comforting to hear other mums and mums-to-be share their experiences. I think I'll just be proactive with my care routine and mainly be positive about the whole experience.
Thanks again! And Xo90 goodluck!
