Should I be concerned about lack of movement

I am 32 weeks baby was head down in last scan (two weeks ago) and I have an anterior placenta. Before the baby seemed to be making fairly big movements could feel them externally but lately I've noticed that she just seems to nudge me not exactly move.
Do babies movements quieten down at this stage?

I feel awful that I've only just started to notice but this pattern seems to have started over 5 day ago.

Bit of background, I've lost two babies due to an incompetant cervix so I've never been this far into pregnancy, I now have a cervical stitch. She used to put a fair bit of pressure on the stitch now not so much.
I would call my midwife only due to the high risk nature of this pregnancy I don't actually have one, I do have a midwife appointment next week the first I've had since my booking in.

I can't tell if I'm under-reacting or over-reacting. Sad

always better to be over cautious and give your maternity triage a call, as others have said on other posts they would rather you go down and get checked out and it be a false alarm than worry about overreacting amd not go down

Katzenjammer · 24/02/2015 11:13

Hi Smile

I would give your local antenatal unit/maternity ward a ring and explain the situation, they will probably ask you to come in to be checked over as reduced movement can be a sign that something's up. It's probably nothing, but they really would rather see 100 false alarms if it means they catch the 1 person that does have a problem, so don't worry about wasting their time!

LittleBairn · 24/02/2015 11:31

Thanks for the advice. She just seems to have finally woken and given me a few big nudges. I'm going to leave it a few hours and note down all movements/sensations.
I should have added I'm on full bedrest and hospital is 45 mins away (and very busy as I have needed to be in a few times, plus i had a 5 week stay)or I would have went I first thing. I'm going to give DH a call and see if he can make it home mid afternoon.

i have an anterior placenta and my little one gives me scares like that. i usually eat something with tons of sugar have a good drink and lie on my left side and wait. he usually wakes up then. im sure hes trying to see how fast he can make mummys heart race with fear Grin you should always get reduced movement checked if that trick doesnt work

LittleBairn · 24/02/2015 12:46

theone I've heard those of us with anterior placentas often get scares late in pregnancy, its good to know others have experienced it too.
She had a lot of movement soon after I posted so I'm not too worried now.
I will still call to ask if I should be concerned about a pattern of decreased movements.
I'm sure too she just like to get my adrenalin pumping, not even born and already an adrenalin junkie. Grin

Please have a look at 'Count the kicks' (sorry can't link on mobile) they will have plenty if useful advice.

Personally I would go and see your MW and insist on a scan. It might be over the top once you've been told everything is fine BUT you will regret it if you don't and turns out to be an important sign.

theonewiththenoisychild · 24/02/2015 13:04

consultant said the movements would feel more restricted from time to time due to there being less room to move around. sometimes my little one will be moving like mad and my bump literally shakes. sometimes he just wriggles but i dont worry as long as he is moving

LittleBairn · 24/02/2015 13:16

under I've been told count the kicks is basically useless for an anterior placenta. I will be avoiding a scan because she's due another one in exactly a week, we've had around 12 already. But I wouldn't mind a trace being done if they are concerned.

theone that's really helpful and reassuring info I was wondering if it was because she's getting bigger. At her last scan she was a great weight for her gestation.
My consultant and I haven't talked to much about the anterior placenta partly because I wasn't expected to still be pregnant, it was though I would deliver by 28 weeks.

Sorry I should add I don't actually have a midwife otherwise I would have called her. I'm in a bit of limbo at the moment haing just been discharged from fetal med but not yet properly on my midwives schedule. And all my appointments even with midwifes are in the hospital.

32 weeks with anterior placenta here too and I have a couple of blind spots where I can't feel anything! Usually if I'm starting to stress about movement I down a glass of ice cold orange juice and see if I can get 10 movements in 60 minutes ... no matter how big or small ... I also pop mobile on top of my bump and quite often see movement I haven't felt ... These too count towards the 10/hour total! Also when buba wakes up under normal circumstances without stimulating her I count ten movements ... If I don't get them, I use the oj and time another hour ... If after than I'm still unsettled I make that call :) at 32 weeks we should still get plenty of movement ... I've been monitored twice now ... Both times see her bopping away in there but I have felt nothing ... its normally when I can feel her back at the front of bump and all to the left ... seems all her limbs go inwards and my insides take the brunt :)

theonewiththenoisychild · 24/02/2015 14:05

also my little one over the last 3 weeks has been waking up later in the morning so patterns of waking and sleeping may change for you too im 35+2 and have been anxious ever since the line appeared on the pregnancy test with this one. we lost his twin at 9 weeks which didnt help my anxiety. but im told he is doing fine and from my blood results im one very healthy pregnant woman. my pregnancy is high risk but everything is checking out fine every step of the way since our loss at 9 weeks. still i'll only stop worrying when ive got him in my arms and can see he is fine for myself Grin

Hi LittleBairn, I haven't read anyone else's comments only your post. My preference would be to ring the midwives, if you don't have a midwife surely there is a number you have been given that you can call in emergencies?
Of course I'm hoping that everything is absolutely fine for you but you need to put your mind at rest as well as check that baby is ok.
In any instance where you feel like there's reduced movements, I wouldn't hesitate to call at all.
Best wishes

Spoke to maternity assessment and I was passed onto one of the Drs who knows my case well.
They aren't worried basically said the same as others its due to the placenta and her getting bigger, if she's still regularly moving then I've not to worry.
My main concern is her movements don't feel as big/hard compared to before not so much that she isn't moving.
They are concerned about the pressure pain and basically it's a big risk to come in, that could end up with the stitch not holding and me needing to deliver. So its just a case of balancing the pros and cons. For now I'm staying at home and I'm much more relaxed.
My dr will call me tomorrow to see how I'm doing.

blackwidwo I think your right about blind spots. Its only in the last few weeks I've been feeling her regularly before if she was behind the place a I felt very little.

theone oh very good point I am waking up later too, her most active times have always been late at night and early morning. I wonder if I'm Sleeping through her most active times?
I'm sorry to here about your DS's Twin, its so hard to relax after loosing a baby but its great you have got to 35 weeks.
I agree I won't relax until she's here with us safe finally.

LittleBairn glad to read that they aren't concerned. Do remember though to trust your instincts every time. Hope all keeps going ok for you!

theonewiththenoisychild · 27/02/2015 17:45

ive had 2 days of reduced movement now. i lay on my left side and ate sweet things.... nothing..... rolled further forward so almost on my belly and felt him kicking the placenta Grin hes shuffled round a bit now so feeling him move a bit more this afternoon

LittleBairn · 27/02/2015 18:31

Glad you little one has wiggled around for you theone

My baby still wasn't moving much on Wednesday so I went in to maternity assessment tp be put in a trace. She moved 14 times in 40 minutes that was more than she's moved all week! Today she seems to be in a new position and she's moving loads, I'm so glad. Smile
