sleepyhead/cocoonababy/poddle pod conundrum...so confused!

Due with DC2 in a few months. Desperate for some sleep this time, I want a more cozy looking mattress on which to lie baby. These all look good but are quite expensive... has anyone had any luck with any of them?

Thanks in advance :-)

Watching with interest, as I'm torn between sleepyhead and cocoonababy......

hollyangel · 23/02/2015 14:53

We have the Sleepyhead and it's been amazing! She has slept so well in it and also has been so handy as she can fall asleep in it in the living room and we can carry her into her crib then. Also useful if you're away somewhere, as she can sleep in it overnight and it's much more compact than a Moses basket for the car!

hollyangel · 23/02/2015 14:54

Don't think the cocoonababy is approved for overnight sleeping? But I might be wrong!

pickwickcrocus · 23/02/2015 14:59

We've bought the sleepyhead in preparation for our arrival in April. We based the purchase on numerous positive reviews and my similar desperate hope of having a bit more sleep than we did with dd! Also, they have a pretty high resale value on eBay etc so think we could get quite a decent amount back when we are done with it. As far as I'm aware, it's the only one of the three you mention that they can sleep in overnight, though I'm happy to be corrected on this ??

EffinIneffable · 23/02/2015 15:18

I'd be interested in people's opinions on this too.

I'm surprised at the high resale of sleepyheads on ebay as I thought the advice to always use a new mattress in a cot or moses basket would apply and mean that you shouldn't use a second hand one? But am I missing something? I'd love to get one but they're so expensive for what would probably only be a few months.

hollyangel · 23/02/2015 15:21

Effin, I promise that you will pay any money for the sleep it gives you!

poddle pod is definitely not approved for overnight sleeping. Thought Cocoonababy was?

Anyway we have Sleepyhead, it's great. Keeps DD nice and snug and she can sleep in it anywhere - when she was little (newborn) we popped it on the sofa and she slept there during day instead of moses basket, took it with us to family on Christmas day, etc. We're going to my parents this week and able to take it with us without taking up too much room in the car.

DD had slept in it perfectly from the outset and I think makes her feel more snug than the big crib would have!

LollieLoves · 23/02/2015 18:01

I think it's the poddlepod that's not safe for overnight, which is why I've ruled it out. Am tempted by Cocoonababy, as it's meant to help with colic and reflux. My mother says I screamed almost constantly for the first three months, probably with colic, so if the baby's inherited those genes/anatomy from me the Cocoonababy could be a sanity saver! Not to mention I would obviously want to minimise any suffering for her. However, the baby grows out of it quicker than the sleepyhead, and given the expense...... Decisions decisions!

ChocolateBiscuitCake · 23/02/2015 18:13

You can overcome reflux (all my 3 dc so far have had silent reflux) by placing books under one end of the cot to keep it raised (although if it is really bad, it will need medicating anyway!). Based on reviews and friends' experiences, I have just ordered the sleepyhead for dc4.

LollieLoves · 23/02/2015 18:15

Ooh, thanks ChocolateBiscuitCake. Didn't know that about raising the cot end. First time mum to be!

flopsybunny45 · 23/02/2015 20:20

Thanks for all the input... when I've been watching miracle babies on channel 5, I've noticed that they have a sleepyhead-looking mattress in the neonatal incubators... wonder if they are the same? If so, got to be good!

Watching this thread! I have an almost 3 week old that doesnt like his moses basket. OH goes back to work in a couple of days and starting to panic on how im going to cope with minimal sleep! At first he didnt sleep due to a bruise on his head from failed vontouse and now we have colds and he is bunged up. Getting too used to sleeping on us!! All advice appreciated!!

Orangedaisy · 23/02/2015 21:35

DD slept in her sleepyhead until 9 months. As a newborn to 5 months she slept really well. Then regression hit and it was awful. Who knows what impact the sleepyhead had. But I would use it again for any subsequent children. The whole thing is machine washable so I don't think the new mattress thing really applies here, provided you get from a trusted source.

Ruralninja · 23/02/2015 21:39

sleepyhead fan here - did wonders for my velcro baby

Naturegirl82 · 23/02/2015 22:39

We used a cocoobababy and will again for dc2. It was great but you do have to stop using it when baby learns to roll but we had no issues moving from that to a normal mattress. The coccoonababy was developed for neonatal units so that is maybe what you saw.

minipie · 24/02/2015 00:01

I've gone for a sleepyhead (second hand) as it is cheaper and seems to last longer and be a bit more flexible in terms of uses than the cocoonababy.

However if DC2 shows any signs of reflux I will be straight out to get a cocoonababy as I don't think the sleepyhead will help with that whereas cocoonababy will.

ruled out Poddlepod as its not approved for overnight.

woodwaj · 24/02/2015 13:45

Ive gone and bought a sleepyhead! Will review in a few days!x

flopsybunny45 · 26/02/2015 19:19

Would love a review woodwaj! Was thinking cocoonababy but now thinking sleepyhead!! The covers are SO expensive though. But not sleeping last time was hellish and I will pay good money to avoid it this time.

I like it! Its not a miracle worker and i think id have been much better if I'd have had it from day 1 but he will settle in it better than anything else! I also like that we can safely co sleep with it and there's no chance of squashing him!! I won't be buying extra covers. I put a blanket over it but ive read that cot sheets work great too!
