Midwife appt

I'm currently 4+3, very early I know, but having read about some problems getting booking-in appts, I thought I'd get in early. I have been given a 20 minute appt with the midwife in 2 weeks, I will be 6+4. I'm assuming this is not going to be the full booking-in, more like introductions, confirm pregnancy, get my records up to date? I have not seen a GP or midwife pre-conception. Anyone else had this, and what can I expect?

Hi, congrats!
This will not be your booking in appt, that's usually around 8-10 weeks and for a couple of hours.
I'm not sure why they've given you this appt as you normally just go straight to your booking in Confused

I'm not sure why they've given you this appointment eitherConfused. As pp said, in my area they seem reluctant to see you before 8-ish weeks and the booking in appointment is 90mins-2 hours long. They take medical history (you and baby's dad), take BP and bloods, measure BMI, prepare your hand held notes, book in your scan. I can't think what use a 20 minute appointment at 6 weeks could be???? Are you pretty sure of your dates?

It depends on where you are, I live in Fife, Scotland and was referred to a midwife as soon as I went to the docs (5 weeks) and seen the same week.
It was as short appointment, I got a lovely prescription of folic acid and some multi-vitamins, a fabby book called Ready Steady Baby and got handed my notes for me to complete the "about me" section in time for my booking in which is this Saturday... yep Saturday... AND They come and see me at home.

I think it differs from region to region.

I was given my notes at five weeks to fill in medical history ahead of my booking in, and my scan was booked at the same time. Which meant my actual booking in appointment at 8 weeks only lasted around 40 mins

Totally depends on where you live, here you have an appointment with gp who refers you for scan/ booking in and gives you your notes to fill out.

I did my booking in as soon as I phoned the midwife to say I was pregnant, about 6 weeks both times iirc

Impatience, it sounds like that's what's going to happen. Wish I could get appts when I want them, saturday sounds great!! DH wants to be involved, I think mainly so he knows what's happening and what to expect, which is cool, but we're going to have issues with work and appts I think.

NickyEds, I literally phoned the surgery, said I'm about 4 weeks pregnant, can I arrange a booking in appt with the midwife. She asked if I'd seen the midwife previously (pre-conception I assume), and when I said no, she gave me 10th March. I asked how long appt would be, assuming it was booking in early, she said 20 min. This midwife is in first thing on Tuesdays, which is when my appt is, then all day Friday, which is when the rest of my appts will be. It's a mystery! I'm in Lancs, btw, not Scotland, so I am even more confuzzled.

This also sounds similar to my first appt but I didn't see midwife until 8 weeks. I had about a 20 min appt where she did my height and weight and took my bloods. Then she booked my scan and gave loads of info to take home and read. I went home feeling a little disappointed that it was over so quickly but then she visited me at home the week after to complete rest of paperwork. That lasted about an hour or so and was much more thorough. As others have said think it totally depends on area and surgery as to how they operate.

I had this set up with my last but one pregnancy. It was a quick appointment where she took my name etc, brief details of previous pregnancies. Don't think she even took my blood pressure but can't remember. The booking in appointment was for a few weeks later where they go into detail about family history etc.
