Advice needed - visiting children's ward

As a one off I have to visit the children's ward when I will be 8 weeks pregnant. I haven't told my work yet that I am pregnant as wanted to wait til after my scan but I am a bit worried about the children having anything infectious that could be dangerous. Does anyone else work in a children's ward that can advise? I will only be there a few hours. Also important to note I will be dressed as Olaf so will have a large snowman head on which potentially could act as a protective mask? Thanks for reading!

I think you should tell someone. I was running a children's club when I was in the first trimester and I told the head so she could let me know. Every other week someone had chickenpox ( which I haven't had) or slapped cheek and I was advised to stay away to be on the safe side. Maybe ask your GP for advice? I think more important that you be protected than you keep the pregnancy secret. Can you confide in one manager for example?

Thanks for replying. I think you are right and I am going to have to tell them. Hmm

On a children's ward, anyone with a transmitable infection should be in a side room isolated to protect everybody else. Do you know if you'll be going into these rooms or just in communal areas? You could ask your contact in the ward.
