Hi, I am wondering what your thoughts are on colouring your hair at 7/8 weeks pregnant. It's my best friends wedding and I really want to look my best. I am going to get it professionally done but I'm just so scared about all the things I have read on the internet... Has anyone else coloured their hair whilst in early pregnancy?

I wouldnt bother, personally. I dye my hair black, but my natural colour is blonde/copper/lightbrown bordering salt and pepper xD which has done my head in while i've been pregnant.
I've had so much grief in the first trimester and i was only using semi-permanent.
Some stylist actually tried the old 'if you colour your hair, you'll dye the baby' crap.
I wouldnt believe most of the rubbish on the internet, but it is really your choice.
My main reason to stop dying my hair, was the amonia and that i use black dye which is more likely to cause a reaction, especially as when your pregnant, you just suddenly have random reactions. That and my sister is an assistant stylist, so she keeps it trimmed and shows me how to do it up so that i dont feel like a total scruff. Oh and the effort of doing it xD that put me off too!

There is no known issue.
However your skin can be extremely sensitive in the 1st trimester. Smile So do a strand test!

Hi,
In the first trimester (or beginning of second, I can't remember) I went to a salon to get my hair done although it was just foils. I normally do my hair myself (with salon colours from the wholesalers as I'm trained as a hairdresser) and had wanted to colour my roots for so long but kept putting it off because I was so drained and tired that I didn't have the energy to do it. I also was a bit nervous like you, too. Although from working in a salon I remember we coloured pregnant ladies hair but I suppose when your in the situation you just panic a bit!
I finally got round to doing it the other week and I just didn't leave it on as long as I perhaps normally would.
Go for a semi permanent too which is less harsh and should contain no ammonia.
Always do a skin test first with every time you colour your hair and especially now as your skin can become more sensitive during pregnancy x

nhs suggests it is okay - it does say Many women decide to wait to dye their hair until after the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, when the risk of chemical substances harming the baby is much lower but doesn't actually say that you need to avoid colouring in the first trimester

I had mine done at the hairdresser once when I was pregnant and they had to do the colour twice as it didn't work properly the first time - pregnancy can affect how the hair reacts to the colour so it may not turn out as usual

I had a full scalp bleach - midwife said it was ok and so did the hairdresser. It was fine except for my hair not lifting as quick, I'm now nearly 21 weeks Grin xxx

I died my hair at eight weeks. I had my 20 week scan on Wednesday and everything is fine with the baby. It's a myth that dying your hair is harmful.

Thanks... I've left it for nearly 5 months as the place I go is really expensive (but totally worth it) and now I've got the money and the reason (best friends wedding) I'm too scared! Lol I have a midwife appointment on Tuesday so I will ask her... I have an ombré at the moment so it might be better as there will be no dye going on the scalp just the ends of my hair?!
