How long did you exercise for?

I've still been going to the gym 3 x a week, I'm now 31 weeks.

How long did you all keep up your exercise routine? I've noticed in the last week, it's starting to get really tough as I'm getting bigger and not having as much energy. Ideally, I would love to be able to carry on as long as I can

About a week? Severe sickness and nausea meant I projectile vomited even walking. And from around 25 weeks got hit with paralyzing exhaustion. I had intended to swim but didn't manage it. Went walking and that was about it. I don't feel bad, it's all I was capable of.

Wow, I'm impressed! Stopped at 4 months (gym) with first pregnancy but went to aqua aerobics and preg yoga until the end.
This time, stopped running at two months (hurt knee) then developed SPD so only yoga.
I really recommend swimming/aqua stuff as it supports you, my pool is closed at the moment else I would have tried to continue.

Swimming and karate up to 38 weeks (when I gave birth) I graded for my brown belt at 33 weeks :)

Chocolatecakefan · 20/02/2015 18:05

My exercise has been a combination of 1 x gym, 1 x swim (which is now mainly backstroke, and walking forwards/backwards/sideways as suggested by the physio) and weekly Pilates. Plus walking the dogs most days, so I've been trying to stay as active as possible.

It's just the last week, as she has has got bigger she is crushing my lungs and making me get short of breath v quickly which is why I wondered how long everyone else had been able to manage.

Are there any suggestions for third trimester exercises I could do?

As long as I felt fine about it. Which actually was 39-41 weeks. Listen to your body, keep cool & hydrated.

Chocolatecakefan · 20/02/2015 18:14

Gobblersknob and ragged, did you find the exercise helped prepare you for the birth and also made it easier afterwards? That's the only motivation that I have at the moment....

I was still teaching bodypump 9 months pregnant. Yes, I do believe it helped, was back in gym in just a few weeks.

timeforsleepnow · 20/02/2015 19:38

I was doing Pilates up until 37 weeks. At this point I really struggled to get up from the floor and realised that most of the class was spent lying on the floor like a whale Grin

Ifyoubuildit · 20/02/2015 19:43

I did Zumba until 37 weeks Smile

WhizzPopBang · 20/02/2015 19:44

Saw a PT every week throughout preg up to 36 weeks - by then I felt really bloated and massive, and it hurt to walk so I stopped but I definitely reckon it helped with recovery. Had an EMCS a but was up and out for pretty long walks within a week or so. I'd just keep going for as long as it feels ok.

doobeedee · 20/02/2015 19:47

Body Attack until 37 weeks! With modifications, obviously. And yes, I do think it helped.

applecore0317 · 20/02/2015 20:41

I lasted up until 21 weeks, would have carried on but the consultant has said no due to some complications :( very envious of you

LIG1979 · 20/02/2015 22:09

I did a 40 minute swim the day before dd was born but luckily overslept on the day she was born and didn't exercise that day. I went to the gym up till 36 weeks and after that stuck to pregnancy dvds, walking and swimming till she was born at 38 weeks. I did however expect to recover quickly but felt very exhausted even going for a slow walk for the 1st week post birth which I never expected. But by my 6 week check I was desperate to go for a run!

This time still exercising 4x a week (bike and exercise dvds) and walking lots at 32 weeks and would like to continue till the end. However, still not figured out what to do about potentially going into labour on a day I exercise as cannot imagine that is a sensible thing to do. That said my bump is bigger this time and already slowing me down so not sure how much I will be doing by the time I get to term.

I'm jealous, I didn't manage at all. Was told to stop at 5 weeks due to complications... (except swimming and walking and it is hard for me to get to a pool) When I was told I could start again at 16 weeks it all felt far too difficult. Now 25 weeks and very unfit :-(

GobblersKnob · 21/02/2015 18:30

I'm not sure if it helped, in all honestly not that much, but I had a very long, traumatic lsboir, over several days and then afterwards I completely fell apart. Tbh not sure anything could have prepared me for that.

DearTeddyRobinson · 21/02/2015 18:34

Kept going to the gym till 36 weeks (when I went on mat leave, gym is is same building as my office). Then just walked/waddled till DS was born 10 days late It was the middle of winter and very snowy so I didn't go very far but I did get out every day. I think it helped with my sleep, post section recovery.
