Bedding for a newborn??

Hi
What bedding should I be using for a newborn? I have got a wooden crib, so what blankets do i need to use?

I am just confused as they say not to put too much in with the baby but i dont want the baby to be cold.

I have got a cellular blanket to use, but what else do i need with this? I have read somethings that say use some cotton sheets but what are these exactly?

I have quite a few knitted blankets that people have knitted for me, but not sure these are the best to use at night.

Sorry for asking stupid questions!! x

I put the baby in a babygro (previously also used a vest underneath but later started finding baby sweaty)..over that I swaddle with a cotton swaddle. On top I use a cellular blanket. Room temperature us around 20 which is quite warm. Now DD is 4 months old & am planning to use a gro bag (sleep bag thingy) instead of the swaddle & blanket. But she moves around too much that way so waiting a bit longer.

It depends on your room temperature really...but I didn't use cotton sheets to cover as I was always anxious about baby pulling herself under it or pulling it over her head...even if it were tucked in. Cellular is safest as its breatheable.

Hope this helps.

Hi
Yeah that does help, as i wasnt sure about the extra cotton sheets either.

I also have got a cotton swaddle, just remembered. So will be able to use vest, babygrow on the baby and use the swaddle and cover with cellular. Then can see how warm/ cold the baby is using those i suppose!

Will that be warm enough do you think? We will put the heating on more when the baby arrives so hopefully the room temperature should be average and around 20.

What does everyone else do?

We did vest, baby gro, cellulose blanket that I think was folded double.
Then sleeping bags once they were ten pounds.
That's all you need.
Get a thermometer for the room.

I remember from my friends NCT classes where I joined her they said 'vest, baby gro, cellular blanket folded (so double thickness) and a room of approx 18/19 degrees. I am guessing if your house is a little warmer you may forgo the vest and see how you go. That's my plan anyway.

Long sleeved vest, baby gro, sleeping bag of the right tog. No blanket unless it's proper freezing. That's what I do anyway. All mine always seemed fine.

Thanks, that all helps.
I think i am just worrying that the baby will be cold and not have enough blankets. But i know they say that you need to make sure the baby doesnt get too hot, so guess they will be warm enough with just a cellular balnket doubled up.

Long sleeved vest, babygro, gro bag.

In the early days long sleeved vest, babygro, swaddle blanket. Then (it was cold mid winter) cellular blanket on top.

That they are more likely to over heat than get cold - was drummed into me!

I got mine into gro bags asap as I always panicked about them wiggling under the blanket.
