Monitoring kicks

I'm not due for my 25 week appointment for another couple of weeks, and the internet is a bit vague - when do you start monitoring kicks/movement? As far as I can tell, you should have felt movement by 24 weeks and then start monitoring from 28, is that right?

I've felt my little one move on and off since about 18 weeks. Some days he's very active, some days I hardly feel anything (posterior placenta, high BMI btw). His routine seems to have changed the last couple of days too, in that he's started dancing around during the day instead of the evening. How concerned do I need to be at this point (23+1)? When do they settle into a routine?

I know I'm fretting! Confused

I don't know but I'm 24 weeks and Bubba has no set pattern as yet.

I'm going to lurk and learn from the wise mners Grin

Despite having two DC and being pretty conscious about kicks I don't know the answer to your question. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about though.

BUT What I do know is that if you have any concerns phone labour ward / triage. They will be able to advise you. Obviously you can talk to your normal midwife about this but I wouldn't wait for that appointment.

Good luck - they'll be really nice and happy to talk to you!

I had to go to hospital when I was 24 weeks due to some fluid loss and mentioned that she hadn't moved much over the last day or so, midwife said it was too early for them to be in a pattern, am 26 weeks now and they are much more regular and she is definitely more active in the day, this is one of the questions I was going to ask my MW at my appointment on Monday

I'm 33+2 and my little one doesn't have a set pattern still! Depends on what I'm doing/what I've eaten/how long I have to go between toilet visits (I'm a teacher so sometimes have to hold it for a couple of hours so baby goes quiet - possibly because there's less space when my bladder is full?) etc. So I just focus on the fact that as long as I feel it every so often and it moves about if I use a 'trigger' like a cold drink or something sugary then all is fine!

I'm 27 weeks and there's no set pattern yet. I also think she kicks a lot less then I expected, or compared to a lot of other women on mn....but my mw doesn't seem too concerned. I'm really tying not to become too neurotic about it, so like littlegrey said, I'm happy as long as I feel her every so often.

Thank you all so much! I will try to stop fretting so much now.

It's really difficult these days to find a balance, I think. I veer between hyper-vigilance and occasional relaxedness. There are websites like [[http://www.countthekicks.org.uk/ countthekicks] which make me feel like I should be rushing to A&E every other day. And then I start thinking about my mum's generation who barely even had scans and still managed to produce perfectly healthy babies! It's a minefield.

I used to go on count the kicks but it made me stress more often than not. I am 26w4d and she hasn't really got into a particular routine. Some days like last Friday and Sunday she was sooooo active, would be moving all day. But then i will get some days or average movement (just after i eat or drink) then a couple days when she is quite quiet. But as long as i can feel her move i am happy and all my appointments have been fine so i can't do much more than that!
