How long did you blood test results take to come back?

Silly question as I should know by now, but how long have your routine blood tests taken to come back on average? For probably silly reasons I am a bit worried about my 28 week bloods - I remember in my last pregnancy one value was out and the midwife called me to discuss but I can't remember the timeframe. Bloods were taken last Wednesday - would I have heard by now if there's an issue?

My doctor contacted me after about 4 days to say I needed iron tablets, the midwife said that she wouldn't be contacting me herself and would see me at the next appointment and that if they're clear I wouldn't hear anything.

Ring your gp, the receptionist will be able to look at your notes and see if they've come back.

Thanks. Our midwives do all the contact so it would be them dealing with it, but you're right that I should just ring tomorrow and ask. I know they don't call if it's all fine so I have just been hoping no news is good news!

I've been wondering the same thing. I had my 28 week bloods last Wednesday (when I was actually 29 weeks), but haven't heard anything yet. I was told I had low platelets at this test in my first pregnancy and I'm hoping I don't hear the same this time round. You have prompted me just to call the mid wife tomorrow!

It's about a week to get them fully processed. However labs first get them started a few hours after they get them. If something very serious is found your gp/doctor will be phoned with the result within a few hours.
If something is a little off, may need some mediation then your gp will look at them with in a few days. If everything is normal it takes about a week.

It's all a trier system really, also depends on what they are looking for as some results do take longer then others.

I never heard anything until my next routine appointments, as there were no issues to discuss. No news is usually good news, when it comes to tests.

I know the no news thing! Just wasn't sure if it was that, or literally no news.

Anyway, rang yesterday, all back, all fine, so I can relax and, hopefully, enjoy the rest of my pregnancy. Thanks for the advice, and good luck to others waiting.

I read this thread with interest; I've had quite a few bloods taken over the past couple of months for various things (including nuchal tests a couple of weeks ago), but not heard a dickie bird! It's reassuring to hear that 'no news is good news'; I just hope it's that and that my results/notes haven't been lost somewhere...

That might be worth chasing, Skeppers. You should be told nuchal results whatever they are, even if just by letter.
