Happy but panicky

I am 8 weeks pregant, first time, and it is fantastic in an abstract way, but have been feeling progressively worse over last week - exhausted but sleeping makes no difference, and now really sick and swoony, and can't work out how to get it under control - eat, don't eat. But most of all panicked because I am self-employed and have some good, high pressure work on at the moment, and I am really struggling with it. How on earth does everyone do this at the same time as real life?
Any tips welcomed from the wise women out there
thanks

not sure you could call me a wise women LOL

But lucozade in them first 16 weeks was a godsend for me and ice cold water!

I tried all the usual rememdies inc ginger biccies and other things and nothing worked!
As for tiredness, try to get early nights, naps if you can, although I know this can be hard.

If im honest I didnt do much in them first weeks and "real life" as you called it took a back seat LOL, I am only just catching up with housework and other things now at 23 weeks but it does get easier!

ok dunno if this will help, had similar, went on to the GI diet-complex carbs-but no calorie restritions, obviously.

I found this did wonders for my blood sugar, which was what was making me sick and tired.

oh also-early nights etc, obviously, and screw the houseowkr, but I'm sure you've worked this out.

And for most people it peaks at...10 or 11 weeks, I think? (peaked at 5 months for me with dd but hey)

Mrs CB, I remember been totally exhausted. It only eased off when I was 24 weeks pg, I'm now nearly 29 weeks and have only just started to pick up. I felt shocking, I got home from wotk and was in bed at 5.30pm. I know its easier said than done when you feel sick etc but eating a healthy balanced diet does help. I'm not sure how much you can chill out and take it easy with you been self employed and having some stressful work on but you do need to look after yourself as much as possible for your sake and your bubs. x

MrsCB, I relied on my DH cooking for me (anything as long as I didn't have to choose and that he listened to a list of anything that made me feel bad); ice cold water (a LOT) and nux vomica (homeopathic), which helped enough to keep me functioning at work. I have to say though (am not self-employed but also have good high pressure work!) that I didn't function at work as well as home - got through a working day and spent evenings and weekends lying on the sofa/in bed reading, sleeping and feeling very sorry for myself.

Sickness petered out at 14 weeks for me, with it completely gone at about 18 and stopped feeling drugged-sleepy at about the same, or a bit later. Felt great from 24-34 weeks though!!

Thank you for your good tips - don't you think it is a flaw in the design of humans to make it so yuk? Bad design, mother nature. Iced water so far a treat, and I will take your advice and keep of the panic junk food. Also, do you think it is true that if you crave starch and don't like sugar that you are brewing a boy?

I have been craving sweet stuff since the early days and I have brewed a boy. Getting him into good habits early with chocolate brownies for breakfast, dulce de leche straight from the jar etc. Bad mother.

Daisypops · 23/10/2006 19:18

MrsCB, I dunno about the sweet things and brewing a boy. My mum thinks cheese and savouries brew boys. Are you intending to find out at your scan?x

squarer · 23/10/2006 19:24

I think it is if you feel really sick then it is a girl - all the oestrogen combines and makes you feel wretched. You can feel sick with a boy too but it's not as bad.
In terms of the high pressure work thing - I was lucky as a consultant in the company... there were a few people there that had become good friends and covered a lot for me. I made it to 7 months despite my body and brain packing in around 4. Make friends and influence people!
And congratulations btw

angelhunter · 24/10/2006 19:32

I craved sugar (chocolate cake) early on then hot chips for remainder of prenancy and no morning sickness at all (sorry! I can hear the boos from here!!)and brewed a girl

Daisypops · 24/10/2006 20:33

I think I'm same as you angel hunter. I had no sickness either and think I'm brewing a girl.
