I am only 7 weeks pg but feeling very breathless and have done since word go. I don't remember feeling like this last time - just walking up a flight of stairs winds me. I consider myself fit and was/is going to gym 2-3 weekly. I am slightly worried as I could understand if it was later.

Does anyone else feel like this???

I get really breathless very easily at the moment but i am 28+6 weeks.
May be worthwhile asking your midwife? Could be that your body is just echausted in these early weeks and you may start to feel better ina couple of weeks time

Nimme · 23/04/2004 10:43

Twiglett - no I'm not asthmatic, already mentioned to GP who didn't seem bothered

SpringChicken - when/how do you get in touch with midwife??

I had this (as did some other posters on the Oct thread). Apparently it's pretty common in early pg because your lung capacity increases substantially to help the baby's organs develop. Although you don't look pg to the outside world your body is working away like mad and using up lots of energy and therefore needs lots of oxygen so you feel breathless. It does pass eventually and you will feel "normal" again.

Piglit - thanks for that - will check out Oct thread. Was getting slightly worried.

Nimme, I am also on the Oct thread and have had the same. Part of me thinks "how can I be breathless? am I putting it on?!" and then a wise Piglit explains and it all makes sense

piglit · 23/04/2004 12:21

I knew all this obsessive reading would come in useful sometime! Actually, my dh has hidden some of my books because I was frightening myself reading all about everything that could go wrong. He bought me a lovely book with pictures of the baby developing each week (they are photos - amazing technology) and we look each week and ooh and ahh at what "bump" looks like as things progress.

Sorry - I'm going totally off the point and soppy now.

beansprout · 23/04/2004 13:21

Piglit - I am the same!! Plus I don't read ahead but "save" the week until I am on it! Was put out this morning when the midwife told me I am 16+2 and not the 16+4 I thought I was - that's means my "new week" day changes - boo!

We are SUCH first timers!

Sorry Nimme, have hijacked your thread and made it all soppy! When are you due?

luckymum · 23/04/2004 17:50

Nimme...are you anaemic?

Jimjams · 23/04/2004 17:59

Nimme- I'm due a week after you I think and have been feeling breathless for a couple of days - only found out I was pregnant today so can't have been imagining it. I thought it was odd as well- glad I'm not the only one.

Angeliz · 23/04/2004 18:01

OH jimjams Congratulations+

Soapbox · 23/04/2004 18:01

Congratulations Jimjams

(You might remember me better as jmg - you helped me out re my DSs verbal dyspraxia).

Nimme · 23/04/2004 18:31

Piglit - I spent ages searching through oct thread - felt like a spy. Thanks makes perfect sense when you explain. I worried as I don't remember it from last time but then each pregnancy is different I guess.

Beansprout and Jimjams - glad to know it isn't just me. (am due 7/12)

LuckyMum - I don't think I'm anaemic but how would I know?

Jimjams - congrats, see you on Dec thread?

Nimme, bizarrely enough I also felt very breathless until I reached about 14 wks (I'm 18 now). No-one seemed bothered about it as my lungs were clear and my iron was normal.

Just one of those funny pregnancy things I guess!

Nimme · 23/04/2004 20:00

Highlander - I guess I'll get used to it - hopefully will go away like yours. Thanks.

Nimme, climbing the stairs puffs me out too. I swim a couple of times a week and dont consider myself particularly unfit but the stairs are a bit of a killer right now.
