Random Appointment Letter: What's it for!?

I received a letter today from the NHS telling me that an appointment has been made for me on the 16th June at the antenatal department of the local community hospital. I will be approximately 32wks by this point.

The thing is, the letter doesn't say what the appointment is for! And no-one has mentioned anything about it to me. I had my dating/nuchal scan & bloods last Thursday, a follow-up midwife appointment booked in on the 3rd March, my 20 week scan booked in for the end of March...but that's all I'm aware of thus far. I can't think of anything significant which would happen at 32wks but I openly admit that I am new to all of this! I can't help but panic now that they've found something weird in my bloods the midwife/hospital took and they're not telling me. The letter just says to turn up and bring a urine sample.

I haven't had the results from my nuchal tests yet but surely 32 wks would be FAAAAAR too late to do anything about that anyway?

Any ideas? I can't get hold of the MW and I'm stuck at work so I'm flapping a bit.

Hmm i think I had a growth scan around this point? Completely routine for my hospital, as I think it is in a few places, so could it be that?

GoooRooo · 11/02/2015 12:44

Yep I had a growth scan at 32 weeks too.

It could be. I know that I am probably a risk for GD (although this hasn't been confirmed by anyone) due to above average BMI and history of diabetes in the family...maybe they want to play it safe? I know that GD can cause mahusive babies.

Thanks! Smile

According to my notes if it's your first pregnancy you have a routine midwife checkup at 32 weeks. Maybe just booking it in early? I think if it was anything specific they would have said. For example I had an appointment through the post but it clearly said it was for the consultant - because of previous high blood pressure.

It'll be something routine. If they'd picked up anything dodgy this far they'd have followed it up by now.

There's loads of routine stuff in late pg. I'm sure I used to someone about something every couple of weeks after about 32 weeks.

Thanks for the reassurance. I'm not usually a worrier but now I'm responsible for another life it's bringing out the worst in me! Grin

They won't leave screening for GDM until 32 weeks, you should be offered a GTT between 24 and 26 weeks if you are 'at risk'. If you do have GDM then you'll have growth scans at 28, 32 and 36 weeks not just 32 weeks.

Why don't you just ring up and ask?
