Pregnancy spots :(

Morning all,

Is anyone else suffering with pregnancy acne?! My skin seems terrible at the moment and nothing seems to help. Have used Origins out of trouble mask a few times, but then read that products containing saylicylic acid aren't recommended in pregnancy (cue me frantically googling to see what damage I could have done and hours of worrying!)

Anyways, has anyone found anything that works? I was thinking maybe tea tree and witch hazel products but the jury seems to be out on whether they are safe as well!!

I am so sick of worrying about what you can and can't use - it's driving me mad!! But I am equally fed up of the spots :(

X

I have horrendous spots all over my back (luckily not face) - but really uncomfortable. I will be watching to see if anyone has any solutions!

I had terrible acne on my back when I was pregnant with my son and by 6 weeks pregnant with this one it was back with a vengeance!
My gp prescribed me Dalacin T which is a lotion, this helped a bit but it was a tiny bottle and I kept forgetting to put it on.
What really really helped shift it was black soap (Google it) you can buy it in boots and on Amazon etc, the reviews looked really good and I read about it on MN. It works! Good luck, I know what a pain the spots are, mine started spreading over my shoulders round to my chest and were so painful but now I only have the odd 1.

You're fine with the salycylic acid, the only reason to watch it is because your skin might me become more sensitive to products like that in pregnancy.
You can use pretty much anything you like, its all topical and doesn't affect your pregnancy at all apart from the aforesaid sensitivity issue. I found Biore deep charcoal wash very useful.

I had this with my first pregnancy - I looked really awful and there was nothing that shifted it sadly. I tried steaming, natural soaps (the only thing that made a slight difference was the Fresh Farmacy soap from Lush?) and drinking more/eating better but nothing really worked. I asked the midwife and she said that if they're hormonally fuelled then they are really tricky to get rid of sadly.

May not make you feel better now but once I started breastfeeding they cleared up within about 2 weeks! So think the oxytocin definitely made the world of difference. Smile

Yep I did. Got some topical stuff from dr but after about 16 weeks it cleared up. Have had clear skin for a number of weeks now so hope it clears for you!

Thanks for the advice ladies- hopefully they'll clear up when the baby arrives. I'll give some of your suggestions a go. I know it's a minor thing, but it's very frustrating. The idea of pregnancy giving you a 'glow' is a joke!! Xx

Hey ladies- me again.

Just wanted to thank Justdrive for the black soap recommendation. I bought some Dead Sea Spa Magik Black Mud Soap from tescos and it seems to be doing the trick. Skin is clearing up and is definitely less red. So, so far so good :) xx

Even my usual Glamglow mask which sorted all my pre pregnancy acne can't touch this! I got some Duac gel from the Dr and it's ok in pregnancy. I had it last time post pregnancy and it really sorted me out. It stops the build up of protein which blocks the skin and gas an antibiotic. Might be worth an ask if the Dr if it's getting you down.

My cheeks are covered Sad

I'm going shopping tomorrow so I'll have a look for black soap Smile

Pinkrach · 16/02/2015 20:19

It's working for me so far- has dried up some of the spots I had without over drying the rest of my face :) xx

Yup had really bad spots on face, ive been using la roche posay effaclar duo for acne (low enough percentage of salicylic acid to not cause harm) from boots, bout 15 quid for a little tube but cleared up my skin straight away
