Oh My goodness!! Just reading these posts is making me gag lol. Am off chicken...just the thought makes me wanna heave & some fish but wierdly fine with red meat Smile

AdoraBell · 10/02/2015 21:52

I did, suddenly in the early weeks and it lasted about 5 months then stopped as suddenly as it had started.

geekymommy · 10/02/2015 21:55

In my first pregnancy with DD, I went off meat. This time around, it's a boy, and I didnt.

mrsseed · 10/02/2015 21:56

One of first signs of pregnancy here. Right until giving birth. Couldn't even walk down Tescos meat aisle without heaving. Used to eat bloody steak or even raw. Not any more, good old medium now! So it had a lasting effect!

VeryThelma · 10/02/2015 21:56

It was raw meat with me literally couldn't walk down the aisle with the meat in until I was 20 weeks was fine once it was cooked though

LuxuryTrifle · 10/02/2015 21:59

This is a reassuring thread! I'm repelled by it too, have been since first trimester. I don't eat red meat or pork anyway, but evn fish and chicken are a challenge now.

But green apples are brilliant - usually hate them but in both my pregnancies have eaten them by the truckload.

Thank you again everyone. I really appreciate your replies and feel so much better it's not just me. Xx

Yes

With DC1 went off red meat, fish, veg etc - had HG throughout. I remember vomiting at the sight of steak on TV and being scared of opening the fridge in case I caught sight of the beef in there!

With DC2 I went off chicken. Was OK with other meat and loved loved loved beef. But honestly like a pp said just the thought or smell of chicken would give me cold sweats.

It all seems incredible now Hmm like I'm talking about someone else.

I hope you feel better soon Flowers

WyrdByrd · 11/02/2015 07:16

Yes - not to the extent I couldn't touch it at all, but I kept a diary while I was pg and wrote in it that I would happily avoid meat and fish and live on cheese!

I had morning sickness of one sort or another pretty much all the way through though. Mostly lived on Caesar salad, salt & vinegar crisps and orange juice ice lollies.

AuntieMaggie · 11/02/2015 07:55

Yes I did. I didn't have morning sickness but I went off all meat except crap like bacon, sausages and burgers and I usually hate Mcdonalds but loved it l. DS is 7 months and I still can't cope with steak because of the consistency and ham/gammon I find too salty. I also went off a lot of veg/salad I would normally eat so my diet ended up being pretty bland. I was never that keen on pork but roast pork is weirdly one of my fave now.

As someone else said keep an eye on your iron levels - mine dropped dramatically in the last few weeks even though I'd started eating veg again

eurochick · 11/02/2015 07:59

I did. Chicken smelled off to me all the way through and I couldn't stand the texture of any meat. We got some lovely steak knives as a Xmas present when I was 4 weeks pg. we used them once before the nausea set in. Then they sat in the drawer.

wonkylegs · 11/02/2015 08:12

I went off lamb when I had DS, the smell alone made me vomit. DS is nearly 7 and I still find lamb difficult to eat.

Ohfourfoxache · 11/02/2015 08:40

Yes!

It's such a relief to know that I'm not completely abnormal and that others have have this too.

Pork is a no-go but can manage bacon. Beef and lamb are manageable in extremely small doses, mince is more tolerable. White fish is ok, plain, no sauce only.

Veg on the other hand - I can't get enough! Roast peppers and courgettes, and kale, are particular favourites Hmm

yummymango · 11/02/2015 13:34

Yes went off meat in 1st and current pregnancy. Bizarrely I have also gone off veg in this pregnancy, and coffee.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 11/02/2015 14:29

I've completely gone off meat and veg. I'm living on bread and vitamin pills.

SueV14 · 11/02/2015 14:39

I went off my beloved steaks and that only because I see no point in eating a well-done steak.. If I can't have it medium the way o love it I rather not eat it at all.

geekymommy · 11/02/2015 14:39

Going off a food or group of foods during pregnancy is completely normal. It could even be permanent- nausea (pregnancy related or not) when exposed to a food is a good way to create food aversions. A lot of us have some food we don't like because we ate it and got sick at some point. That happens to other animals, too. It probably evolved as a way for animals to learn to avoid poisons. If you don't want your food aversion to be permanent, avoid things that trigger nausea as much as possible.

HazleNutt · 11/02/2015 14:42

Before DC1, was vegetarian for 10 years. Then got pregnant and suddenly one evening just grabbed and scoffed the chicken DH had made for himself.

Now with DC2, totally off most meat and fish, only odd things like McChicken burgers still work. Funny things those little beans do to us.

dooberrywhatsit · 11/02/2015 14:45

Still off chicken at 17 weeks - vom!

geekymommy · 11/02/2015 14:49

My sister went off being vegetarian when she was pregnant with her first, too!

kinkytoes · 11/02/2015 15:00

I went off chicken and mince primarily. We used to eat it all the time. Could stomach it again just about after ds was born but I'm not mad about it and we hardly have it at all now.

I also went right off tea, but enjoy that again I'm pleased to say.

Chillyegg · 11/02/2015 15:00

Yeah I can only about stomach chicken.
Can't stand the smell of cooking lamb or mince.

Cant eat beef burgers.
Quorn still makes me throw up.

The smell of meat used to make me throw up in my 1st trimester!
