For anyone who fancies the cosleeper idea but doesn't fancy the hefty price tag, we did the home made free version!

We got a simple wooden cot off freecycle, adjusted the height of the bed base, removed one panel and made it secure, then cable tied it tightly to my side of the bed frame. We budged the baby mattress right up to our mattress then tightly filled the gap on the opposite side with rolled up towels. It worked like a dream for the cost of a few cable ties and brackets.

We also have the snuzpod. Was lovely at the beginning for keeping DD close and not worrying about squishing her. However she's a very long baby who likes sleeping in the starfish position, so at 3 months she's outgrown it (plus side is no issues with convincing her to go in a massive cot!) As a PP said, they have good resale value so I don't regret getting it.

We've got a normal cot with the side taken off and tied to our bed. There is a gap on the far side which we have stuffed with rolled up towels.

I had the Snuzpod and loved it! I used it til baby was 7 months as he was totally disinclined to sit up until then! It was apparently not the easiest thing to put together but once it was done I was impressed with how sturdy it is. Something I would advise is check how high your mattress is and if the co-sleeper mattress can sit at the same height as we have a high mattress. It was something I didn't think of before buying, but luckily the snuzpod was just right on the highest setting. There's nothing more lovely than laying in bed watching your baby sleep right next to you Smile

We have the snuzpod. It was totally awesome. DS outgrew it by 4ish months - maybe four and a half? He still fit but would wake himself up when his little fingers touched the sides! We twice took the bassinet away with us for the weekend /- we went on holiday when he was two weeks old so it was nice to have everything the same as at home!

We are still using it now he is in his own room - we have the side down and use it instead of a bed rail for the times he ends up in our bed (adds a bit of extra room for the three of us too!)

For bappy changes, just keep a small change kit next to the bed (I had a cot organiser hanging off the snüzpod and and change him in between your legs. Easy! You also don't change night nappies for very long - once their bowels settle down you can normally use just one overnight xx

Does anyone know if bednest is longer than snuzpod? don't want the baby outgrowing it within 3 months!

HazleNutt · 12/02/2015 10:55

about the same size. Snuzpod mattress is 80x36 cm, bednest is 82x37.

I have the arm's reach - worth every penny. Got it for DS2 - he was a big baby but was in it until he was 7 months - only moved him as he was starting to crawl and could have gotten out of it. There was still loads of room in it at that stage though. Currently using it for DS3 and would definitely recommend.

Yes if you want something cheap and larger Ikea have a selection of cots that can be used with one side off. They don't have as many mattress height options but may work depending on your bed.

lentilpot · 12/02/2015 16:26

The snuzpod doesn't have the curved ends problem that the other poster mentioned. It totally depends on your baby, mine needed his cot lowered for pulling up by six months so nothing would have worked! If he'd stayed swaddles he would have fit till six months, easy.

Thank you I'll have a look on eBay x

First timer so not used it yet but got a Babybay co sleeping crib (2nd hand off ebay - £50- bargain as most sell for £100+).

I like wooden / natural look so hence the basic appearance appealed to me! But it can also be used later on with conversation kits to make it a high chair, playpen, desk, bench etc. Which I thought could be a good thing. Plus can buy a small side panel as accessory when needed.

Comes in normal or 'maxi' size so depends on your side space which one might be better.

I hope it's good, randomly came across it Google searching!!

No one else has mentioned a babybay so thought I'd throw it into the mix. Anyone out there used / had one?

LissieD · 12/02/2015 19:24

I have the snuzpod and love it. Ds is only 7 weeks old but is sleeping like a dream in it compared to dd who was in a Moses basket. It's great to be able to see him and reach over and comfort him without getting up. Would definitely recommend it. It works with our really high bed too.

Shantotto · 13/02/2015 06:45

MrsF I'm really tempted by a BabyBay, love how it changes into different bits of furniture. Me and DP both quite tall so am thinking of getting a maxi in case baby is also big! Do report back when you've used it, I'm not due til August!

pinkie87 · 13/02/2015 08:22

Stupid question alert. I'm confused as to where exactly I put the bedside cot if I have a bedside table in the way? Blush

jessplussomeonenew · 13/02/2015 08:37

Pinkie I have the bedside cot next to the table, it means the baby is a bit further down relative to my body but it keeps him well away from my pillows and still comfortably within reach. I have to move to the foot of the bed to get out but it gives me a place to put the lamp etc.

Onsera3 · 13/02/2015 16:03

I was tempted by the babybay but it not much was included- you had to buy the bridge is needed, the additional side.

Plus I wasn't sure if it is difficult to find sheets and mattresses for the asymmetrical shape. You have to replace the mattress for each baby so it's good to have options.

MrsMogginsMinge · 13/02/2015 16:10

I have the Next 2 Me and Mamas & Papas travel cot fitted sheets fit well enough. Can't review the bed itself as still waiting for baby to arrive...

cookielove · 13/02/2015 20:15

I have the chicco next to me I have a 6 month old ds. One of the great things about it is that you can angle one end up which is great as ds seems to pick up one cold after another. When he was tiddly I put the moses basket in it (perfect fit) and when he got to two months ish he went in that or the sleepyhead. It was great having him right next to me. He now sleeps on his tummy so it's pulled away from the bed so the angel care monitor works.

We use normal crib sheets they stretch far enough or cot sheets and tuck them in.
