Welsh? How about Gwenllian, Ceinwen or Ceridwen, all pretty for girls.

dinosaur · 22/04/2004 17:32

There are some nice Irish ones on here

littlemissbossy · 22/04/2004 17:32

Had a friend at school called Ffion - that's welsh!

Mirage · 22/04/2004 17:40

Isn't the Welsh word for darling Cariad? I think that is a lovely word & would make a beautiful name.

loujay · 22/04/2004 17:43

We called our DD Caitlin (and have since shortened it to Caiti)
If its any consolation my DP disliked every name that I suggested and even went through a stage of 'superhero' names just to upset me eg - Buffy, Zena warrior princess!!!
Our other thought was Trinity, but when DD arrived she looked more like a Caitlin.
Hope this helps.

AussieSim · 22/04/2004 18:14

What about Avril - that's welsh isn't it - and now trendy again after Avril Lavigne.

Janh · 22/04/2004 18:23

Welsh names
Russian names
Celtic Mythology

The site is American so some of it sounds funny but they have loads of categories. Have a sleuth!

Marina · 22/04/2004 18:45

Secur, I think it's Kine-wen. It's from a novel I really enjoyed and the English reader-aloud pronounced it that way. Means "little one" I think...

aloha · 22/04/2004 19:00

Cariad is Carry-add, as it is spelt, isn't it? That's how my Welsh Wales Welsh friend Rhian pronounces it anyway. I also think it is pretty. Or another Russian name - Lydia?

kbaby · 22/04/2004 19:31

My dd is Rhiannon, so naturally I think it's a lovely name and would recommend it

grumpyzebra · 24/04/2004 17:17

Saren? I think that's Welsh for star (and is a girl's name). Ffion, too.

One of my best friends is called Daloni (pron. dal on ee) which apparently means 'little dear' in Welsh. Like cariad too (use it on emails to dh) but not sure anyone uses it as a name?
A girl in my baby massage class is called Manon which her mother says works in Welsh and French (her dh is French).
Also Elen as in the fairy (my sister's middle name). My other sister was going to be an Angharad but my step-mother vetoed it. Sooooo many nice Welsh girl's names and I go and have a boy!

Lesley76 · 25/04/2004 06:20

What about:

Elena or Yelena
Anastasia
Lara
Eva
Marina
Nadia
Natalya or Natalia
Raya ( short for Raisa)
Sophia
Tanya (short for Tatiana)

????to keep up your Russian theme!

Bronze · 25/04/2004 10:46

SEREN is correct spelling for 'star' in Welsh
Ffion means 'foxglove' (so good if baby due in June!)

Ghosty · 26/04/2004 00:36
