At 38 weeks and feeling dodgy, do I go to networking meeting this afternoon an hour away?

I'm on maternity leave, so while it's work-related, it's an optional networking meeting. The key thing is I'd get to chat with the person covering my role while on maternity leave. I've arranged for my dad to drive me there and back, just in case, and there's a big obstetric hospital in the city (although I desperately want a MLU birth locally).

I'm hesitant though because I keep getting diarrhoea - have done for weeks - and most recently, on Tuesday, it was intense; if I hadn't been at home within running distance of a loo, I would have had an accident. This seems to happen every few days. My tendency to get the runs is starting to dictate life in these last few weeks, and I'm defaulting to staying at/near home, just in case. Plus I had unsettling pains at the top of my bump during last night, and my feet are so swollen, I'd have to wear bloody wellies to the meeting! And I am feeling a bit run down with persistent thrush. AND we'd be driving back in rush-hour - it took me 90 minutes last time.

Can you tell that, instinctively, I want to stay at home?! But I would really like to show willing and chat to my maternity cover. He was head-hunted by my work, having told me himself that he wasn't interested in anything short-term Hmm ... so I'm feeling a bit vulnerable on that front I suppose, wondering what work have offered him, and want to seem committed to my job to the last.

Ramble over. WWYD?

I would definitely stay at home.
Maybe offer to speak to the person covering your leave by phone or give him an e-mail address he can contact you on if you don't think it will get overused while you're off.

Put yourself first. Maybe you could arrange a phone call or Skype chat with the person who will be covering for you?

smogsville · 05/02/2015 11:13

Defo stay home. This replacement is very unlikely to give you the inside info you're after at a first meeting anyway. Take care and hope you've spoken to your mw about your symptoms.

Don't go. Offer to have a phone call with the person covering your maternity instead.

Yes stay at home! Smile

If you don't have to meet him, then don't. Keep up the mystery that you're a complete whizz and totally with it lady, rather than having to break the conversation early to nip to the loo! Grin

Maybe offer a phone call instead, but if it's not a specific work handover and just info finding about what he's been offered then don't. He'll probably not want to disclose anything and even if he did it doesn't mean that's exactly the way it'll turn out.

Stay at home, put your feet up and have a nap.

Stay at home. Not worth it. Put yourself first in this situation.

Stay home luv. I'm 38+5 now n running to n fro to the loo, I don't want to go anywhere at all as I'm so uncomfortable. I'm sure he will understand. Maybe a call or email will do?
