Do I really need disposable knickers?

Forward planning but thinking about my labour bag. Lots of people seem to suggest disposable knickers. Are these to wear during the labour? I sort of presumed I would be knicker-less. I'm guessing they are suggesting disposable because they get so manky they need to be binned afterwards?

I really can't see them being comfortable. Would it be ok just to buy a really cheap multipack of normal cotton knickers from a supermarket or am I missing a crucial point?

Sorry if it's a stupid question but this is my first and I want to be prepared!

I was told that aswell haha and to pour water on your bits while you wee if you tear as it stops the stinging

Both times I used giant incontenance pants, and then put a pad inside that. It meant that I didn't have to worry at all about leaking through the pad. As I had a c section twice, it meant I didn't have to worry about wiggling if the pad went wonky.

Yes with the water!! I kept a cycling water bottle with me all the time and squirted it there when i weed!! I also sat in a widgey pillow when I wagched the tv as found sofa too soft lol!

Thanks ladies- I knew you would be able to clarify the knicker situation for me Smile. I'll try size 12 to start I think.

What about a nighties? I usually wear PJs with a vest top so hoping I can go back to that after the birth. The tops pull down or up easily for breastfeeding. I'm guessing I need nighties for the labour though for easy access?! Should I get a button up the front one or is a strappy one ok?

I had strappy dresses with a breastfeeding button. Also took a dressing gown but is was sooooooo hot! Glad I took it though for walking up and down the corridor :)

I was naked throughout my labour lol :)

Button up nighties are good for breasfeeding. I wore a hospital gown during labour because they needed access at the back for the epidural. In future I won't be having an epidural and will wear the grottiest old t-shirt I can find and then ditch it.

glad someone has asked this, the thought of wearing paper pants after the trauma of birth was not looking fun!

For my first labour, I brought in pyjamas. Foe the second labour, it was what I happened to be wearing on the day. My friend had lent me her maternity top, I had to tell her it was ruined - but bless her she just said she was pleased I was wearing it for such a special occasion! Smile

If you are normally a size 8, a size 10 should be fine. That's what I did last time and I'll be doing the same again. You'll need the full style knicker partly because the maternity pads are so big and you really will need them.Take some black or dark colour lounge type pants that you don't mind wearing in public to come home in too. I wish someone had warned me I wouldn't want to wear skinny maternity jeans after having stiches!

I have been getting my bag ready and bought some disposable pants. Opened them up to be greeted by a very uncomfortable looking nappy type creation that also looked about 10 times smaller than it was supposed to be. Don't think I will be bothering Grin
