I am about 7 weeks, at about 5 weeks, I got a vomiting bug and now 2 weeks later, I have tonsillitis. I never usually get ill. I am so worried how this will be affecting the baby as I know the first trimester is so important. Last night I have had a temperature just under 38 and even now keep going hot and cold, taking paracetamol. I read temperature in early pregnancy can be damaging to the neural tube etc.... I am ultra paranoid as had a very premature baby last time around. Can anyone offer some advise, reassurance. God I need to stay away from google....

Mm silly question, but are you sure it was norovirus? I ask because, about 7 weeks pg but not knowing, I called the doctor telling him I couldnt stop being sick. I was diagnosed over the phone with norovirus, thinking back now it was definately morning sickness, not norovirus!

Sorry, dont have any advice, just thought Id mention that in case it puts your mind at rest a bit.

Hi op I had a really bad infection around 7 months with a raging temp , couldnt eat or get out of bed . Had abx and was fine in a week . If your worried see your dr . x

The only worry with infections is a temp leading to dehydration - increase your fluid intake an if possible have light bites to eat although with nirovirus I imagine it's the last thing you wanna do.

Congrats on the pregnancy

Nvm you have tonsilitis now not noro still try an drink though

I've had tonsillitis at the beginning of both of my pregnancies, your immune system is low at the minute so you're more susceptible to these illnesses. Just make sure any medications you take are safe in pregnancy x

The baby is a parasite at this point (in the nicest way!) and will keep itself nice and snug while you get on with being ill. It will not affect the developing foetus to have tonsillitis, stay hydrated and look after yourself, your immune system is taking a hammering as all your good stuff is being leached by your baby!

I had sinusitus, a hideous stomach bug and chest infections (x3) requiring antibiotics in my pregnancies and was reassured that the baby looks after itself, you look after YOURSELF. :)

Thanks ladies ! You have all reassured me. Am now going to stay away from evil Dr Google !

I am just taking paracetamol 4 hrly and lots of fluid. Have been off food for a good few weeks which probably isn't helping my immunity.

(It was definatly norovirus as DH and DC got it.)

Thanks again x

Hi op You are taking too MUCH PARACETAMOL !!!! Your supposed to take 4 doses a day which is every 6 hours not every 4 ! Sad

Luckystar82 · 03/02/2015 21:24

I had norovirus at 7 weeks and my baby is fine (17 weeks now)

I had diarreah for 2 weeks and was very unwell

Summerdaydreams · 04/02/2015 09:05

ruby o gawd! I have always done 4 hrly whenever I have been ill since forever.

Just checked box it says to not take more often than every 4 hours and not to exceed 4 doses (8tablets) in 24hr period. I have had 8 and no more so hopefully Baby will be okay....

Sympathy and empathy from me! I'm 37 weeks and had norovirus followed straight away by tonsilitus. MW says it's not going to harm baby unless through dehydration. I was wondering if being pregnant had affected my immune system though as I've had lots of "non-pregnancy related illnesses" -picked up every cold going at nursery etc.
