So my morning sickness hit last night as I was going to bed, I was up until past 12 and I am still feeling quesy now. Does anyone have any tips for dealing with morning sickness in general or at night?

Pregnancy Sickness Support

Everyone is different. When I was sick and pg I had a massive aversion to anything sweet, but other people swear by Lucozade!

This website should help. The important thing is to stay hydrated. If your sickness becomes debilitating, your GP can prescribe antisickness meds (although may not want to).

Oh God I remember the joys of waking up in the night to be sick Sad
I was sick up to 10 times in any 24 hour period, and felt constantly sick all the time with my first pg. I was signed off work for about 3.5 months as I just couldn't function. Luckily I always was able to keep hydrated and survived in the main on dry rice krispies. I sometimes found if I had a couple of mouthfuls of 'proper' food I would be very sick and then I could manage a bit of the rest of the meal (sorry if TMI!). Never really found a proper relief though. It was better if I could keep trying to eat something - plain savoury stuff worked better for me - dry biscuits, crisps, dry toast etc but nothing stopped it.
With pg 2, I demanded meds from my GP as I couldn't cope with that and a toddler - that worked much better Grin

I found peppermint tea after my evening meal and not eating too close to bed time, helped. Although I got worse as pregnancy went on and found omeprazole helped. Then was given some cyclizine for when it was really bad.

I have my worst sickness at night. For some reason it gets steadily worse throughout the day. I think it's because I can manage some food early on in the day but as the day carries on my appetite decreases, but if I do not eat enough I throw up. In the evening I can usually only manage tiny amounts of food and end up vomiting around midnight. I have to force myself to eat to avoid being sick with an empty stomach - that's the worst. My doctor gave me promethazine such I taken when I'm desperate and it takes the edge off. I think you need to identify something you can swallow and make sure you eat before bed. Porridge maybe? I can only eat potatoes in the evening. Living off cereal the rest of the time. Good luck. X

This is how my HG started I ended up sleeping downstairs on the sofa as it was close to bathroom. It was horrible I couldn't turn over whilst asleep as my stomach would flip & I'd be running for the nearest toilet/sink. My advice is get a sick bowl, don't eat cereal during the night (or anytime I still can't eat it at 28 weeks), sip water/fluids as large amounts can just come straight back up & see your GP for some anti sickness meds don't wait like me until it's really bad

I found these helped:

Drinking lots of hot water with a slice of lemon
Ginger biscuits
Dorio crackers (crackers with salt on top)
Ready salted crisps
Slices of cucumber
Lemonade
Ice poles
50/50 mix of cold orange juice and water
Sleeping with a sick bowl and roll of toilet paper next to the bed with a clear route to the loo at all times!

I think you'll just find your own ways of making yourself feel a little better, but ultimately you won't be able to stop the sickness Sad I found the taste of water absolutely vile when I had morning sickness, but it's so important to keep hydrated. If you can't bear plain water try squash, juice or even fizzy drinks if it's all you can keep down. You just have to eat or drink what you fancy when you fancy and hopefully you'll have a better chance of keeping it down. Hope it passes quickly for you, morning/evening sickness is horrible! Thanks
