Ectopic pregnancy

I went for an early scan today and my consultant said she thought I was much earlier than my dates would suggest. Instead of the 6+3 I thought I was, she thought I might be 4-5 wks but was concerned about an ectopic pregnancy. I was sent for emergency bloods and my hcg levels came back higher (7500) than she would have expected considering what she saw/didn't see this morning.
I've been called back in for another scan and more blood tests tmr morning for a second opinion,
and a list of what to watch for and strict instructions to go to straight to A&E if I get any of the symptoms she listed tonight.

I'm petrified.
What happens if it is an ectopic pregnancy. I know there is no way to continue with the pregnancy but how is it resolved? Can anyone help?

There are definately only 2 tubes!!

Sorry you ladies are going through this. Have you heard of the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust. Google them. They are a fab charity that have loads of advice and a helpline and forum. I had a couple of ectopics almost 10 years ago now and they were a lifesaver. Their info will explain what is meant to happen to HCGs, what happens after Methotrexate and about expectant management (when you let it resolve).

Goodness. I knew I should have trusted my instincts and called her out on her tube information, but I just assumed that being that female genitalia is her job that she would know more. I'm definitely up for a tube voting thread to see if anyone can shed any light on it Grin

Morning all. OP here.

I'm not expert but even I know that there are only 2 tubes!
Hurr1cane, that is quite worrying that she said that to you.

5 hours until my scan. Lucky I have my darling DS to keep me occupied until then x

Handholding for you. I hope everything turns out fine.

Yes it is very worrying isn't it? I'm going to go to the GP Monday and see if she knows when my scan will be

TakingTheStairs · 31/01/2015 13:09

Hello, just a little update. Had another scan. They found the sac where it should be and a heartbeat too.
Thank you all SO much for the handholding.
