packing my bag for stay in hospital after ELCS. DH will be up everyday and can bring extras if needed but I just feel like I'm forgetting something.

I've got for me.

2 nursing bras
8 breast pads
1 pack of pads (another left out for DH to bring)
2 pairs of big knickers
towel,
flannel,
flip flops and slippers
toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrush, shower gel, shampoo, hair brush, bobbles and a headband)
deodorant
1 nightie.
1 pair of pj's
socks

for baby I have
6 vests
6 babygrows
2 cardigans
2 hats
2 scratch mittens
2 socks
10 bibs
cotton wool
wet wipes
nappies
2 sma starter kits (6x 100ml bottles ready to use) and another 2 at home that DH can bring if necessary.
A blanket
2x dummies (will be put in the night before in a sterilised container)

have I forgot anything? is there anything else you think will be useful?

The car seat with a jacket and hat are all together for DH to bring up when we can go home.

TIA

I'm paying to have a private room so no need to worry to much about noise. plus I have to have some noise to sleep (usually white noise).

as soon as I'm up and about ill have my own pjs/ nightie on so again no need for a house coat lol

manechanger what do I want peppermint oil for?

manechanger · 28/01/2015 16:56

Have you had a cs before? After it's taken out and put back in you can get quite bad wind. I didn't get hold of peppermint oil I got the tea but it really helps ease the pain and also to push everything through.

In my first hospital we had to do a poo before we could leave. It's also quite painful and not much fun so lactulose etc can help ease everything. we got it as a matter of course in first hospital and first cs, didn't get it in second hospital and last two c sections.

manechanger · 28/01/2015 16:57

I meant all your insides are taken out and put back in, not the baby, that just comes out. But all that fiddling does distress your body and how it functions hence the wind. Sorry. x

Trooperslane · 28/01/2015 17:06

More kacks.

And snacks.

Trooperslane · 28/01/2015 17:08

Oh yy to flip flops for the shower

And a nightie which is larger than your normal pre preg size

I appear to have forgotten that I wouldn't snap back into shape and was basically baring my arse on the ward Shock

manechanger · 28/01/2015 17:12

it will be lovely to have your own room. me and ds had such a great time together. still think i would need a dressing gown, i struggled to get baby in and out of the plastic tub thing, going from lying sitting is tricky with that scar. I remember sleeping first night with bed almost in sitting position and dd tucked in my dressing gown.

StoryOfMyLife · 28/01/2015 17:42

A light dressing gown? I was told to bring one to walk to surgery because I was wearing a hospital gown. It was also useful for the showers.

Lottiedoubtie · 28/01/2015 18:21

Can I second the peppermint? I forgot that earlier. The worst pain after my csection (far worse than the scar) was the shoulder pain. The hospital treated me like I was mad complaining of shoulder pain. I even said to the doctor 'could it be wind?' She said shed never heard of that... It was so bad I couldn't lie on the bed on the day after the operation. Tramadol didn't touch it...

Then that night a kind, old school type midwife came on shift, she immediately got me some peppermint water which tasted vile but my goodness it helped!

Jackieharris · 28/01/2015 18:27

Arnica and lavender oil

TheEagle · 28/01/2015 18:31

Snacks definitely - and this time I will bring some cartons of Ribena because I was so freaking thirsty on the postnatal ward last time!

If you're getting new towels and they're dark coloured, I suggest washing them first. I was covered in purple fluff for the first few days of DS's life Grin

Multimam compresses are heavenly if you're thinking of breastfeeding.

Good luck and congrats!

TheEagle · 28/01/2015 18:33

Oh and yy to lots of comfy knickers.

I found the hold-me-in type knickers were extra comfy and helped with the "my stomach might fall out" feeling that I had post-emcs

ILoveMyMonkey · 28/01/2015 18:41

Definitely food and drinks, I was starving afterward giving birth and once on the ward wasn't offered anything till breakfast the next morning. And a warm cardigan / jumper or dressing gown - the woman opposite me had the window open and it was arctic!

lip salve definitely!

BikeRunSki · 28/01/2015 19:04

Lipsalve, maternity wards are very warm and dehydrating

Showy · 28/01/2015 19:06

I complained of shoulder pain (thought I'd been in a funny position during surgery) and the midwife immediately knew it was trapped air. Never felt anything like it before or since. Just like you've slept funny but really very sore. Peppermint water cleared it up within 10 minutes. At our hospital they have it available at all times. I just asked and the midwives dissolved some capsules in warm water for me.

Meplusyouequals4 · 28/01/2015 19:19

mane this will be my second section. I don't remember having trouble going last time but I will get something just in case it happens this time.

gonna go shopping this weekend for snacks and drinks.

I've added lip balm now Grin

I'm taking towels I've had for a while they are dark blue so no showing of anything lol

ill have a look for a light house coat this weekend while I'm out.

Thank you all for being so helpful I know this is my 3rd but I seam to not be able to think properly Blush

I think it's more about not straining the scar than anything else.

I liked wearing light joggers (a size up from normal), felt comfy but like I was dressed. Moisturiser for your face! Vests are good for skin to skin, just slide baby inside!

FruitySalad · 31/01/2015 10:59

I love threads like this for all the wisdom!

I got a lightweight dark grey dressing gown from mothercare last week, it wasn't expensive and will hide any spillages etc!

Meplusyouequals4 · 31/01/2015 11:24

fruitysalad it was such a great help to me.

I now feel ready Grin

small tub / tube of hand cream or moisturiser. I spent about 5 days in hospital in total round the birth and they were obsessive about sanitising. the sanitiser completely destroyed my hands and it took weeks for them to stop being all dry and peely, I've packed some moisturiser this time round.

Meplusyouequals4 · 31/01/2015 19:53

tgeboomonster I'm a theatre technician so I use hand sanitizer all the time at work my hands are used to it.

I even have a bottle on the wall as you go in the bathroom of my house Blush
