Hello, Got the BFP and stopped taking my citalopram (10mg) straight away but feel so crappy. Head is like a ball of cotton wool. Just wondered if anyone else was on it went they fell pregnant?

Hi French fancies, I'm in a similar position. Got my BFP last Thursday and went to see my doc o Monday as I'm currently on 30mg which I know is on the high side. My GP was lovely and really reassured me, I'm staying on 30mg for the next 4 weeks and then have got to go back and going to start reducing them by alternating my doses (e.g. 20mg one day, 10mg the next, 20mg the following day etc) The hope is that I'll be able to come off it but failing that there are other anti-depressants which are safer which they can transfer me on to.
It's a really hard call, on the one hand I want to do everything possible for the baby however my mental health is also important so that I can function and be the best possible mother. See your GP and talk about weaning yourself off or switching to an alternative, you need to look after yourself as well as your baby xx

Hi gingernut, it's so tricky isn't it... I've actually stopped mine entirely when I found out as I was only on 10mg and the nurse practioner I saw said to stop but then she also booked me an appointment with my GP.

When I saw my GP she said she would have gradually reduced it rather than stop abruptly but by this time I had already been off them for a week so thought i would just see how it goes.

I don't really know how long they take to come out your system, but I've always been able to tell within 24hours if I forgotten to take them, I tend to feel dizzy and my head fills like its full of cotton wool and that's the continual side effects I've had since stop taking them. If I move my head too quick it feels like a few seconds before my eyes catch up! So for now I'm just going with it but will be carefully monitoring it.

I hope all goes well for you with reducing the dosage. It's so difficult coping with mental health and you have to do what's best for you and your baby, even if that means staying on itxxx

I was/am on 20mg throughout ivf, pregnancy and bf.

Consultant Ob and head of mental health in major Scottish teaching hospital approved it.

Still on it. Life saver.

I was on 40mg for several years and reduced down to 10mg over a few months. I'm 10+2 now and still on 10mg which both my gp and mw are fine with.
