Can a "knock" on the bump hurt the baby

Hi all prob a very silly question but my 18 month old son head butted me full pelt in the stomach. Since then baby hasn't moved but I'm sure it's just sleeping. I just wondered if anyone could reassure me. X

2 year old DD kicks me ALL THE TIME. It's horrid isn't it? But I think the baby is incredibly well protected. I think if it harmed the baby there wouldn't be so many siblings with an 1-3 year age gap!

I asked my midwife in passing and she said a kick from an adult would be a worry but a toddler related trauma is unlikely to do anything, although obvs would give them a ring if you are worried/don't feel usual movements after a quiet lie down and cold drink etc.

I'm always bumping into things. Baby seems fine so far. If movements aren't felt by tomorrow go in.

Same happens to me a lot! To reiterate advice above, they told me to call up if movements drop, but they weren't worried particularly A they said if started bleeding it would be a more significant sign but that toddler unlikely to do much damage.

But I always call if movements diminish and don't start again after cold drink etc.

Thanks for all your replies. He has done it before but never so hard, it really hurt. I have felt my little one move since so like you have all said they are well protected. X

My vehicle was driven into at 32 weeks. 60mph head on collision. The steering wheel shunted into my bump and knees. It was a terrifying wait to birth - but DC was and is absolutely fine Smile

If you're rhesus negativr blood type and you get a knock that is big enough that it could cause a bruise then you might need an anti D injection. Otherwise nothing to worry about.

This is a relief! DD kicks me around the stomach (no bump yet). We're working on "no kicking Mommy", but it's taking a while... (I've got some extra stomach fat for insurance, even- maybe for once in my life, I can be glad for that belly fat)

geek I have enough "protection" aswell Grin Does your dd know/understand u are pregnant? My son (18 months) I think knows as he points and kisses it. So was quite shocked when he started to head but. But he is going through a head butting phase at the moment.

Amantes glad you and your little one are ok after the crash.

I've told DD (almost 2.5) that we are having a baby, and it is in Mommy's tummy. I don't know if she really makes the connection. She likes to head butt too, we're working on that as well.
