Currently on week 5 learning labour helping breathing techniques. Class is good for getting to know other pregnant women. Can be a bit hippy for my liking with some of the ideas talked about but it is good in the sense it offers ideas for everyones preferences and you may discover something you don't know.

Yep and I'd recommend it. Didn't work for me but I did have the odds stacked against me during labour in terms of back to back birth, big baby etc.

That being said, it was hugely refreshing to hear that labour doesn't HAVE to hurt, and to give you tips of how you can help your body get through it rather than working against it (ie, lying down makes things more difficult etc). I genuinely wouldn't have known a lot of things without the classes.

I didn't enjoy the class environment so I left halfway through the first session - but that's probably just me and groups! However I really like the theory so we booked the same teacher to do a private couples workshop for just me and DH and I found that massively helpful. Even if it does nothing at the time I feel a lot more confident!

I did the own day Saturday course for me and DH. It was shockingly shockingly bad and a complete waste of time and money.

PotteringAlong · 26/01/2015 18:10

I suspect that was a lot to do with the teacher though.

JaneyTea · 26/01/2015 18:53

I'm halfway through a set of classes at the moment and finding them really helpful. The teacher is lovely and it's great to have space to relax. Yes, it is quite hippyish and I suspect it's very dependent on what the teacher is like.

Thanks ladies. Its on a sunday night here which is a right pain but I may go for it

I'm just looking into this. Is daisy birthing the same as hypnobirthing?

Trooperslane · 26/01/2015 20:24

I absolutely loved mine and did 2 courses. Brilliant and very reasonable where I am.

Agree teacher makes or breaks it.

Would thoroughly recommend.

PotteringAlong · 26/01/2015 20:30

Think I was just unlucky - the philosophy is right up my street; it's a shame mine was not as positive as everyone else's seems to be.

pinkie87 · 26/01/2015 20:35

And also, do you do these classes I'm addition to normal nct antenatal classes?

HappyIdiot · 26/01/2015 21:01

I did 2 and a half terms and loved it. My first contractions happened during a class, so I didn't need the rest of my third term! I agree with pp's that it does depend on the teacher.
My labour really didn't go to plan, dd got very stuck and I ended up with an emcs but the breathing techniques really really helped to keep me calm. The midwives commented on how well I was managing and, when there was a cast of thousands poking around in my undercarriage, said "you tolerate internal examinations very well!" Which was not a compliment I ever thought I would get. Would definitely recommend.

sleepybee · 26/01/2015 21:20

I've been thinking of starting these next month. I'm already at a yoga&hypno birth class on weekends but the daisy one is during the week I was thinking of doing the 2. I love the yoga & learning the techniques which will help when in labour. Baby seems to love yoga also!

HoggleHoggle · 27/01/2015 06:16

pinkie I did daisy and NCT - both totally different angles and NCT also covered baby care whereas my daisy class was purely about the birth

pinkie87 · 27/01/2015 08:10

Thanks hogglehoggle. I think I will do both if I can afford to!

heidibuttons · 29/01/2015 22:58

I am currently in my first term of classes - teacher is great and we all spend a lot of time just chatting and comparing experiences. Breathing and rotation exercises seem like they will be useful too.

broomy123 · 30/01/2015 01:47

I would really recommend the classes. Like Happy I had an EMCS and the breathing techniques were invaluable at keeping me calm throughout but also for recovery over the next couple of days. It's a bit hippy but actually a bit of a treat to relax and have some time purely for you!
