So Ive just had my a scan at 14 weeks and the sonographer told me the gender of the baby Hmm

This is DC3 and I know that from experience they normally tell you if you ask at 20 week scan. He said to me oh you have 2 more boys so its probably a boy. I asked if he thought that because I had two boys already or was it because he could tell from the scan and he said it looks like its going to be a boy - exact words. Anyone else had the gender told less than 20 weeks. Even private scans won't tell you until your 16 is weeks.

You do not have a 70% of having the same sex again. It remains near enough 50/50 with only a variation of a few percent either way.

*chance

Told me too, they were wrong.

Ieirswnllyd · 23/01/2015 20:13

11.5 weeks here, NHS sonographer said DS was a boy.

GingerCuddleMonster · 23/01/2015 20:19

11 weeks 5days, my sonogropher said "we just need him to move his arm" I looked at her with a face that said "did you just say him?"she just smiled. We had already discussed hoping it was a boy, well DP more than me Smile.

15week specialist scan definitely a boy, no hiding it giant testicles on a massive 40" tv was our first view of DS Grin.

Burmama · 23/01/2015 22:30

11w6 and sonographer said he thought it was probably a boy. Confirmed at 20w Smile

You cannot tell gender for a few years at least! But sex can be told quite early on, but not always with a great accuracy.

busymummy2boys1girl · 23/01/2015 23:13

I have 2 boys and youngest a girl. I have always only been told at 20 week scan the sex. I'd take it with a pinch of salt until 20 weeks as the probability of it being correct is a lot higher. I think they can tell sex from the bloods they take from you as well? Might be wrong tho x Smile

Wish I had know this before as I had to have 12wk scan repeated a week later and I would have asked - I had no idea they may be able to tell at this stage. I did notice on one of the scans (can't remember which) they said 'she'. I took it with pinch of salt but now I am wondering..... I would so love for it to be a girl!

Our sexing scan £79 - everyone seems to have paid fair bit less Sad

13 weeks at a private scan. Anomaly and pre eclampsia screening.

chloechloe · 24/01/2015 07:06

We were told 80% a girl at 14 weeks (vaginal scan). I'm certain she was 100% sure though, but was too professional to say that. Now at 32 weeks it's still a girl, confirmed by another specialist at my anomaly scan.

confused79 · 24/01/2015 07:10

They can actually find out anytime from 14 weeks BUT as the NHS 20 week scan isn't a scan to tell you the sex, it's too check measurements, check the placenta is in the right place etc. . And 20 weeks is the best time to do it, they're not going to being it forward so someone knows the sex early.

cuphat · 24/01/2015 07:47

Look up nub theory. It seems to be pretty accurate at around 13 weeks and there is a forum devoted to it which has a high success rate of correctly guessing the gender from 12 week scans.

Gender scans are done at 16 weeks at the earliest as that is the earliest you can tell with a 'potty shot' as they call it, but you can usually tell a few weeks earlier by looking at the side 'nub shot'.

I'd be annoyed at being told without asking though.

Again: You cannot tell gender for a few years at least! But sex can be told quite early on, but not always with a great accuracy.

When i booked early scan to find out boy or girl.. it was named "gender scan".... not "sex scan" lol. So i will continue to refer to this as gender. Thanks.

XenaTheWarriorPrincess · 03/01/2024 11:48

Yes, they can tell at 14 weeks. It probably depends on how good the equipment is.

Thr place I got my private gender scan from did it from 14 weeks. I got mine at 15 weeks.
