Carpal tunnel relief - any suggestions?

I had this a bit last time, but it was bearable. This time, it first showed up in the early weeks, but went away again. Now it's back (29 weeks) with a vengeance in my right hand; thumb & first 2 fingers & waking me up at night. Rather than just pins & needles it actually hurts.

I mentioned it to the dr back at the beginning but he seemed reluctant to get me those splint things.

Has anyone found any good ways of dealing with this?

Do I simply need to stop spending so long on mumsnet, tapping away on my iPad?

Advice appreciated

I have carpel tunnel though it's non pregnancy related.

Ask your Dr again for wrist splints. I don't wear mine often but when my dad's was bad he found it really helpful to wear the splints at night. I think they just help to bring inflammation down overnight and keep them in the right position.

The biggest thing that has helped me over the years is adapting the way I type so I don't put too much strain on my wrists. I can't really describe how I do it now, as it's second nature.
but yes, less mumsnetting might help, as would a reduction in any other repetitive movements or things that require tight grips (I can't ice more than one cupcake, use a screwdriver for more than 5 mins as I can't grip for that one)

I would definitely raise it with go and / or midwife again. Seen as you can't take any pain killers they need to give you other kinds of help right now.

When you say it hurts rather than pins and needles, do you mean shooting pains up the nerves?

I had this and the midwife offered to refer me to physio for splints, so perhaps see if your midwife can help, Hope you get it sorted, it's pretty miserable, I'm 39+5 and it has cleared up now Smile

Thanks guys.
At other times, I.e. When I'm not pregnant, I sometimes get pins & needles in the night, or my hand feels dead, but if I wiggle my fingers & hand it comes back to normal very quickly. At the moment, it'll bother me from about 4am and won't really go away. It's more like muscle pain than nerve pain. I'm guessing it's to do with circulation change when you're pregnant, plus I tend to retain water a bit.

I go to an aquanatal class run by a physio from the hospital, so I'll have a chat with her on Thursday. I've got to go to the dr about a referral for a support belt she's suggested anyway.

Roll on the last week in March when baby will be here & I'll go back to normal-ish!
