Does anyone else find swallowing pregnancy vitamins horrendous?
I'm not good with big tablets. Last time I struggled through. This time I've not moved on from seven seas trying for a baby yet but I'm aware that doesn't have enough vitamin d.

My other option is swapping to a folic acid and vitamin d tablet from boots as they are meant to be small.
Amy advice? Experiences?

The pregnacare ones are massive and made sick within 30 mins if taking them! I am just taking calcium and vit D Joint ones from tesco, they aren't as big

I was panicked by this too but contacted Pregnacare and they said it was fine to break them into two or more pieces and they're quite easy to snap by hand!

I always take tablets with food, not water - is so much easier! You can easily swallow a piece of food bigger than the tablet, and the food pushes it down better than water. Get some food ready to swallow then shove the tablet in with it.

The ones from boots (folic acid & vitamin d) are sufficient enough and yes they are small. Xx

Jackiebrambles · 17/01/2015 09:54

Yes the pregnacare ones are massive. Plus they make me constipated! I'm taking them every other day now instead of daily. Mainly for bowel reasons! Grin

Sorry, not much help on the swallowing front. Can you chop them in half?

The only other thing in Pregnacare which I think is important is Iodine - many women are deficient, its hard to get in the diet and it has been shown to affect baby IQ.

Get the nhs healthy start ones or the boots ones they are smaller than a paracetamol

I also struggled with the sevenseas (when MS was bad just the thought of it made me gag) and have found the tesco own brand pregnancy vitamins much smaller and easier to swallow! This is probably a terrible thing to say but I also find taking it with a fizzy drink much easier as well.

Thank you all! :)
I've got the boots folic acid and vitamin d for now and will try and keep my diet as varied as possible.

I've been taking Santogen Mum to Be tablets throughout my pregnancy. I'm not great at swallowing tablets but these go down fine, they are just slightly bigger than a standard paracetamol.

rosedavo · 17/01/2015 15:41

I have a terrible time taking pills, i break them into 2-4 bits and if you take it with a fizzy drink i find it easier as you cant feel the pill in your mouth, just bubbles, and it makes it easier

Sparrowlegs248 · 17/01/2015 15:56

Pregnacare and seven seas make me almost immediately constituted. My midwife said as long as I was taking folic acid and Vitamin D it would be fine. They are indeed very small and easy to take.

IWantDogger · 17/01/2015 16:01

I'm not great at swallowing tablets generally but in my first trimester I'd retch trying to swallow them so I just stuck to the little folic acid ones, from superdrug I think. They're teeny weeny and I still retched sometimes but miles better than the pregnacare lumps (which also gave me constipation I'm convinced)
