Did anyone get pregnant (eventually!) after ovulation induction with clomid or femara?

Hi

We have been TTC for 2 years :-( All tests seem ok apart from the fact that I ovulate late in my cycle giving me a shortened luteal phase around 9 days.

The fertility specialist wants to treat this with letrozole (Femara) because she says this should improve the quality of the ovulation and in turn give better progesterone results.

I know this approach is usually for women who aren't ovulating at all on their own and so I am looking to see of anyone here was prescribed clomid/ femara to rectify poor or late ovulation? And whether it worked or not?

Me, me, I've had both.

On my own I ovulate anything between day 20 and day 29. Clomid and letrozole both brought it to day 16.

DD was conceived after 3 rounds of Clomid, and I've just found out I'm pregnant after 2 round of Letrozole.

Clomid didn't do anything for my LP though really, but I did get given progesterone once pregnant until 12 weeks ish because I had spotting. My LP was hideously short, 6 or 7 days.

Clomid turned me into a hissing ball of rage, which is why I didn't go for it again. Letrozole made me all lovely Grin.

I wish you loads of luck with whatever you decide.

I had to have clomid because i had no periods at all. It did regulate my cycle but i did conceive whilst not taking the clomid. I wouldn't have got preg without it though!

I had clomid after a bad reaction to the depo injection left me 'barren' for 18 months despite having conceived 3 times before without issue ... 3 rounds of Clomid and I conceived dc4 and have had no problems falling pregnant since.

Yes clomid after nearly two years TTC. Progesterone levels were very low with no apparent reason. Now very pregnant, due in March. Wishing you luck. It took me three cycles of clomid 50mg but it was difficult and emotionally trying. Worth it in the end though!

Yes I don't ovulate on my own so after ttc for 12 months we were finally given clomid 100mg. Miraculously we conceived on the first cycle and I am 4+3. it really does work if you aren't ovulating. Not sure how it would affect you if you are already ovulating - may give you text book cycle. I ovulated on day 14 so that was pretty text book!

Hi

I conceived on clomid after 3 cycles (I was 38 and had had a miscarriage before). Sadly that pregnancy ended in an ectopic pregnancy but it did work with minimal side effects for me.

We now have a five month old - Ivf worked first time for us so keep positive. Have a plan in your mind and remember ... It's not a case of if.. But a case of whenGrin

We will try clomid again for baby number 2. It's relatively inexpensive (I went private as the Nhs would not do anything for us).

Good luck!

Me! We had unexplained infertility (I was ovulating albeit on a long cycle) but no pregnancy after three years of trying. We were lucky enough to get into a clinical trial, with clomid and IUI as the active interventions. I was devastated when we were allocated clomid - had been hoping for IUI, and couldn't see how clomid would help - but after 2 cycles, got pregnant. I think it's worth a shot. Good luck.

Thank you ladies! And apologies for the late reply, I was away for the weekend and thought I'd leave the phone switched off.

So (as with everything on this horrendous journey!) it seems like a breadth of sifferinf experiences but in general it worked for people in my situation. Might take a couple of cycles though.

The prescription is coming from my GP (fertility clinic has written to them) so not sure how many cycles I will get as I havent seen it yet. Is it a standard I wonder?

I had irregular periods and a 35 day cycle. I had one round of clomid with a booster shot at time of ovulation. Got pregnant straight away and DD turns 1 next month!

woodwaj · 19/01/2015 09:27

I would expect them to give you 3 months worth at first but i don't think they will give you more than 6 in total!

Lindsay81 · 19/01/2015 09:51

Thanks woodwaj
Fred - I want your dream clomid experience!

I did 10 months of clomid after nearly 2 years of trying as I wasn't ovulating. Got a bfp on the tenth month, which ended in ectopic pregnancy.

Took a break from any medical treatment and started seeing a fertility acupuncturist. Got pregnant six months later and am now 37+4 weeks pregnant.

My advice would be to take a break every couple of cycles as clomid is pretty full-on. And maybe consider acupuncture with a fertility specialist - but I am biased about that now.

Best of luck!

woodwaj · 19/01/2015 11:08

I am 37+1 feather not long to go now!!

I agree to have a break depending on how much you are given. I would also recommend taking it in the evening so you can sleep through any side effects. I had a lot of hot flushes when i took it in the morning.
