Severe dabilitating cramps

Hello, I'm 5 weeks pregnant for the first time and am having the most horrendous pregnancy. I know nausea and cramping and constipation and wind (to name a few!) are all normal and reading these threads has really put my mind at ease, but it's the intense 20 minute doubled over in pain cramps which just don't seem normal. I've had blood tests and my HCG levels are progressing as normal and dr reassures me every pregnancy is different, but I was just wondering if anyone else had felt these intense cramps? They seem to happen 3-4 times a day for 20 minutes and leave me in tears and sometimes vomiting. Feeling terrified at every cramp but no blood yet.

If they're debilitating contact an epu or your gp an ask should you go to a&e

I would ask to be refered to an epu to have a scan and check everything's ok.

I'm 30+5 and remember having cramps in the first trimester but they weren't debilitating just uncomfortable

I had really bad cramps (not quite as bad as yours though) up until about 10 weeks. I was referred for a scan at 7 weeks, which was great as it was so reassuring to see the little bean with its heart beating away! My midwife booked this for me after our first contact appointment.

See if you can get a reassurance scan and try not to worry - easier said than done, I know. I'm currently 28 weeks and all going well.

Thanks. Today I got referred to the hospital but after waiting for 2 hours they just felt my tummy, said things seemed fine and said it was too early for a scan. So frustrating!

Rotten gems, if it hasn't been definitively confirmed already you must insist that they check you for an ectopic pregnancy. I don't want to scare you but it is possible to have a twin pg with one embryo in the right place and one in a tube. The chance of that is really very small but you need to get the medics carving for you to rule it out.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 16/01/2015 15:11

written I had a scan at 5 weeks and another at 7 weeks due to a previous miscarriage so I don't understand why they told you it was to early Hmm

There's not much to see at 5 weeks but as takestwo says they can check for an ectopic pregnancy and see the sack.

Please go back and insist on an internal scan.

So today I called the hospital and said I wanted a scan. They were great and told me to go in at 9am. Had a scan and they could see the gestational sac but nothing inside and no heartbeat. No sign of ectopic but I do have a 4cm simple cyst which may be causing the intense pain. Had a blood test again to monitor HCG levels. Nurse has just called me and said she is not sure if the pregnancy is viable at HCG levels are 3500 and at this level, they should have seen the yolk sac and heard heartbeat. Going back in on Monday but now worried sick! Has anyone else had high HCG levels but no yolk sac and heartbeat at 5 weeks? It's so early but she sounded so sure it wasn't viable Sad

At 5 weeks all they could see was the sack, I was told it's far to early to see the heartbeat and even at 7 weeks was told I may not see the heartbeat.

5 weeks was to check the sack was in the right place

Beggy15 · 17/01/2015 18:30

You can't see a heartbeat till 7/8 weeks so not too sure what your midwife is talking about

MissTwister · 17/01/2015 18:32

I had a scan at 5+6 and could see baby with clear heartbeat but it is also common to not get one till a bit later.

Good luck x
