Gaining weight everywhere...

...apart from where I should be! I'm 10 weeks and I'm PILING on weight around my waist, bum, thighs, but not where my 'bump' should be. Is this normal? I was never exactly slender to start with, but always held on to my smaller waist and well-proportioned hourglass figure. Now I'm more of a fat rectangle! I've not been eating any more than usual, still walking 45 mins per day to/from work (minimum) Is this normal? I feel like a great wobbly lump of playdoh. I've been fortunate enough to not suffer from any morning sickness at all. Could this be it? Does your body gain surplus weight in case of sickness? I don't want to diet whilst pregnant (it's generally advised against) but at this rate I'm going to look like a bouncy castle in a few weeks. Help!

I've gained everywhere too I think it's due to hormones Confused

At 25 weeks I can't wear my knee high boots any more as they are tight, my face has filled out. I have water retention. I'm just trying not to let it get me down too much & hoping I can shift it post baby

I'm only 7 weeks and have noticed a thickening around my waist, which is unfortunately one of my better features. My boobs are huge and are growing out and sideways.

I'd say it's definitely normal, plus if you're eating well and exercising (which is seems you are) you're doing everything you should be to stay healthy.

Don't let it get you down, I know it's cliché but your body is busy being amazing. We've all got years after pregnancy to work on regain figures if that's what you want to do. I'm rambling but feeling very emotional about pregnancy tonight. Smile

Yes I noticed a boxiness around my middle quite early on. The general podge doesn't feel like fat fat (I know as used to be 2-3 sizes bigger) and more akin to water retention ime. I ebf with first and it was all gone by 9 months without dieting or really moving. The waist does reappear and the arse does look less tired and old eventually.

Even my calf's have fattened up ... I've spread like a butterball :(

smallgreenbanana · 15/01/2015 05:56

Butterball here too at 15 weeks! It does not look too bad in the mirror, except sideways, but looking down at chest, tummy and knees is horrendous. I'm trying not to let it get me down, but some days are worse than others. I want to be a skinny lady with a bump, not bump all over! I think that boat has sailed!!!

I just don't look at this stage.

I reccommend getting a few maternity bits to wear as having clothes that fit make me feel better. I've invested in some topshop mat jeans & love love them plus got a few dresses from ASOS in the sale plus Mat tights & next maternity leggings. Plus I've got bras & pants that are comfy. And Santa brought me a huge long cardigan. There's no point squeezing into too small stuff as that will make you feel worse.

I've just ordered some sportswear things from M&S in bigger sizes as I go to antenatal yoga & walk lots & was struggling to fit into my Nike leggings etc Confused

cathpip · 15/01/2015 08:08

It's only a lucky few ladies that just gain a bump. I gain a bump another arse, thighs larger than my dh (he rows) and breasts the size of balloons, and I'm still as active, my midwife just giggles every time she sees me, but I'm perfectly healthy, I just get very large in pregnancy (pre preg size8/10, 8 months preg size16 :()

Skeppers · 15/01/2015 08:29

'Boxiness' is a good way of describing it. Just a general lumpy lack of shape. Thank god it's not just me then (sorry- that's quite selfish)! Wink

I think I was wistfully imagining myself as one of these lucky folk who just cultivate a nice tidy bump at the front. Should've known better really; my body and I...we've got history. Normally I'm a size 18 anyway but (I've been told) don't look it because I'm tall with a big build. I've always been plus size, despite eating well, running/cycling, working with personal trainer, etc. So I suppose you'd call me fat-fit! I'm definitely looking plus size now though and struggling to fit into a size 20...urgh.

Cheers for the reassurance!

blackwidow74 YES! MASSIVE CALVES. What the hell is that all about!? What can they possibly contribute to the process? Thank god I don't wear skirts at the best of times...

With you! I am just generally tubby at the moment ( more so than usual!) I am currently living in leggings with a dress or long top.

knittingirl · 15/01/2015 15:33

I'm afraid this is the stage where you just look like you've eaten too many pies... Don't worry, the bump does come!

dietcokeisgreat · 15/01/2015 19:48

18 wks here and feeling similar. No real bump yet but more fat on tummy, large boobs ( usually non existant) and thigh/arm enlargement. Have moved into leggings mainly as seem most comfy.

This is my second pregnancy. Last time didn't change shape at all til about 25 weeks, then bump developed and put on about 12-14kg overall by the end. Was hoping for similar but a much more hungry this time around and no abs left.

sianilovesbeingamummy · 16/01/2015 13:33

Im also 18 weeks and only recently my bump has become more prominent! I was a size 6/8 pre pregnancy and still fit into my size 8 jeans although moving onto maternity jeans but I seriously feel huge. You may read this and feel what the hell is this woman complaining about but the idea of gaining any weight terrifies me to death. As an anorexic sufferer in the past I have to tell myself constantly that I have to eat "normally" for the sake of the babe. My diet has never been the best, always far too healthy, food wise, and not eating through the daytime and just having a small meal in the evening!!! It is only when i have been pregnant that i have stuck rigidly to 3 meals a day and healthy snacks but obviously my body craves all the fat, nutrition etc which I have deprived it of previously so tends to hold on to literally everything that passes my lips!!!! I think everyones body is different huni and you will lose it again once your pregnancy is over. I have lost more weight after each pregnancy so i am actually hoping I dont lose too much after this pregnancy as I cant really afford to. If you can get over that idea of just looking fat and focus on being pregnant then I am sure you will do fine. For me, now I actually look pregnant Im not too fussed if people notice the weight gain as it is obvious as to why. Mine is all to do with psychological state. I wish it wasnt but i dont have much choice other than to do what is best for my baby x
