I feel like I've got some kind of superscent!

Dp has just had to go and change because I can smell food off him. I've got a new coat and I can smell that new plasticy smell from it. Cigarette smoke is doing my head in!

I feel like I can smell everything so much it is making me feel sick.

Any coping tips? It's only been a few days- how can I do months of this?

I couldn't go in our fridge for months & still at 25 weeks my colleagues perfume makes me gag. I started going into the fridge again about 20 weeks when my nausea/sickness etc all subsided

I felt like a dog, sniffing everything.

Cooking and food smells are bad. Also mopping floor smell.
Fridge smell was the worse and persisted longer, I still hold my breath when I have to open it.

There is nothing you can do, it will past or get milder.

Avoid cooking smelly meals, heating them in microwave, going to streets markets where you catch a whiff of chicken grilling etc.

Ask husband to cook, wash dishes and floor, clean up fridge, not to wear perfume....

snap Jackie!! the cat litter, even when its freshly changed by hubby makes me sick. When hub is cooking I sit upstairs, shut the partition door and open windows. Im totally avoiding the kitchen and my only coping strategy is to stay clear of anything I cant tolerate...if you find any other techniques, let me know! Im driving the other half bonkers!

I had this with first pg. Couldn't cope with smell of fridge, oiled wooden work surfaces, frying meat, the linen basket, damp towels in the bathroom, cigarette smoke, perfume, anything really. I discovered a little late that i liked the smell of lemons especially in fizzy water. This time around I have a permanently blocked nose which is somewhat of a relief, although I have a horrid dry mouth at night from breathing through my nose.

*through my mouth

I was the same. DH had to do all the cooking and I never really got back into the habit 16 years later Blush I mean the smelling thing calmed down, I just don't cook much anymore.

Worst smells for me were broccoli and chicken.

BananaToast · 14/01/2015 18:30

I had this early on but it calmed down a lot from about 11 weeks. Im 26 weeks and can now wear perfume again Smile

Soap in all its forms. Can't stand it, throw in perfume too. I had to get my sister to bring simple shower gel from the uk (i live abroad) at Christmas because i was retching my way through every shower.
It is getting a bit better at 14 wks but my DH still has to do all the dishes, hair washing is torture, and DH I can't go near post shower, i havd to wait until he gets in from work and the smells have worn off!
Only thing is to avoid those smells!

smallgreenbanana · 15/01/2015 05:44

The dry foods cupboard in my house is so revolting I have to hold my breath when I go in there. It has improved since I hit the 2nd trimester, but how disgusting the smell seems to me is like nothing I can possibly describe. DH says he smells nothing!

smallgreenbanana · 15/01/2015 05:50

jackie coping tips - remember it will get better so it's not forever. Avoid the offensive smells as much as possible is all there is to it really. As others say, get OH to do worst stuff that smells, and otherwise plan your way around it when you know there will be smells. Hold your breath/nose. If poss have something to suck (that you can stand, like mints) or place in front of your nose (find something that is ok, like lip balm or lemons or just a scarf) for some situations like on the train that you can't avoid. I spent several weeks glaring at people on trains for daring to produce smells.

Jackieharris · 15/01/2015 17:55

Thanks, actually the fridge isn't bothering me (yet).

Dp does most of the cooking anyway.

I'll try using my lip balm more to shield the smells.
