It's a girl.....apparently!

Had my anomaly scan today and Nurse said she couldn't "see any obvious male bits!"

Really wanted it to be a girl, still a bit apprehensive as i know its not 100% accurate but still very happy!

Has anyone been told its a girl then had a boy as i was told it's more likely for them to make this mistake than the other way.

but did she say

i think it is a girl

or that she couldn't see boy bits?

none of these are 100%

i do know of people who have been told its a girl and have had a boy and one told it was a boy and it was a girl!!!

However- at both of my 20 week scans- i was told the sex and both times it was correct

boy first then girl...

MerlinsBeard · 16/10/2006 18:24

she doesn't mean its a girl, it means that she didn't see any obvious boy bits. They could be tehre, its 50/50 anyway. boys and girls 'bits' can look very similar on scans so i have heard.

She said it's looks like its a girl. I'm not going out to buy lots of pink or girl clothes or anything like that.

In fact I'm thinking of doing a 3-d scan as i've heard that's more accurate?

well, fingers crossed

no experience of 3d scans...did she point out the girl bits on the scan and if so, what did they look like?

N1SEXYTING · 16/10/2006 19:20

No she didn't point out much as just concentrating on looking for any structural abnormalities.

Initially baby was crossing 'her' legs but then opened up and me and DP looked for boy's bits and couldn't see either.

I'm excited by the possibility but not totally convinced myself, just too worried it turns out to be wrong!

well, i wouldn;t get too excited then, only 20 weeks or so to wait and see !

Daisypops · 16/10/2006 21:40

There was a thread similar to this not long ago and a few people said they were told girls and they ended up with boys I've bought loads of coloured stuff, daft I know but the sonographer said she was 95% sure. DP might be swapping and shopping again come January! I do think they get a lot more right that wrong though!

Beauregard · 16/10/2006 21:44

They always say "no obvious boy parts"
Have been right both times for me .

ChiTownLady · 16/10/2006 22:12

Meeeee - was told it was a girl - we had chose girls name ( was on wrist and ankle hospital bands) and when the baby came out (emg c-s) the mw face just fell and dh nearly fainted thinking something was wrong and she jsut turned around and said uhhhhh, i think you need to chose a different name.!!!

I found it v difficult the first few weeks as i kept referring to him as 'her' and 'she' - as I had been for the last 6 months prior to birth.....I had to chose some none gender specific name to call himm ( i chose sausage which I still use today!) obv not just sausage bt his real name as well!!!

N1SEXYTING · 16/10/2006 22:19

@Chi that's scary but funny at the same time.

Good thing is we have both girl and boy names so we're prepared in that sense. I'm not going to buy a lot of girlie cloths and mainly buyt sleepsuits and baby gros in unisex colours.

the good thing is if it turns out to be a boy my sis and sis-in-law just had boys so there would be a lot of boy clothes passed on

I was told at the amnio scan that it was "probably" a girl, and that was confirmed by the amnio result.

bought a pink fluffy stuffed unicorn to celebrate. Sooooo pleased it's a girl!

Dawnybabe · 18/10/2006 11:42

I've had this discussion before and basically the best advice seems to be keep an open mind and don't spend loads of money on coloured stuff! My radiographer said she thought it was 'probably' a girl, but I don't feel convinced. Especially as my best friend was actually told that twice and had two boys. Mind you I do keep refering to the bump as her and she, so I'm gonna be a bit confused if a boy pops out. I'm gonna buy loads of neutral and white sleepsuits, etc, and just buy a nice fleecy outdoors all in one to go home in in both colours. Mothercare are apparently quite good about you taking stuff back if you don't need it. Trouble is mine's due a week before Christmas so it's gonna be a bit of a job getting to the shops, either amongst the Christmas shoppers or the sales shoppers!

yes, the 3d scan can be more accurate. On the nhs at 20 weeks they told us dd was a dd and we had a 3d scan at around 28 weeks and was told the same..And at the birth dd was a dd..!!!

We are now expecting a boy and will ask the question again in 3 weeks time at the 3d scan.

Congratulations BTW. xx

N1SEXYTING · 18/10/2006 16:53

@SHH, where you go to get your 3d scan and was it expensive, really considering it as I'm not the most patient of people

We asked at anomloy scan and she said it looked like a girl even showed us the screen and 2 white lines show signs of alabia (aparently) this confused DH as he didnt know what labia was

However we are having a 3/4d scan done tomorrow as we want to be sure as we already have DD and would hate for it to be born and be dressed in pink if its a boy!! Our scan is costing £120 we got a £50 discount as we had a dating scan with them at 8 weeks so the £50 we paid for that comes off the normal price which is £170.

we get a dvd of the whole scan, lots of smallpics, one a5 picture and a cd rom with all the still pictures on so compared to some places think it isuite a bargain.
