When to tell work??

Hi, I'm currently on maternity leave. I'm due back at work at the beginning of March.

I had a little Christmas 'surprise' finding out I'm pregnant again with my third child. I'm about 6 weeks, edd 6 Sept (until it's confirmed at dating scan).

My work say that u have to tell your boss as soon as u know your preg. However, as I'm on maternity leave, Im not sure Iif this applies to me though (as no risk of anything happening at work).

However, I know there's a lot of re-structuring within the organisation. I guess they will plan on my being back for a bit longer than 6 months!

Also, my hubby is a manager there and doesn't want to tell anyone yet (as it wasn't planned, I think he's worrying about what people will think). He wants to wait until after my first scan.

I kind of feel like I should tell them though, out of courtesy as much as anything. That way, they can plan the work etc. Also, my dating scan will probably be around the week before I go back, which seems very late to spring this.

Has anyone got any opinions / suggestions as to what to do for the best? Thanks in advance x

If you're in UK you don't need to tell work until 15 weeks before you leave so I don't see how your company have made up a different rule - very naughty!

Most people wait until 12 week scan as risk of miscarriage is much lower and you've had the first scan.

If there's a lot of restructuring I'd be inclined to keep quiet - you don't want to be one of those made redundant....

I would wait until after your first scan. My friend went back for about 6 weeks before taking maternity again, by law you have to give them 15 weeks notice I think but if you want to tell them sooner, do it after scan....keep Ya hubby happy too xx

I had to tell my employer early, only because a certain element of my job carried a risk so I wanted to get the RA carried out ASAP. But yes, like others have said, it's 15weeks before the EWC

I told my boss early due to heavy lifting in my job so he put me on light dutys, if anyone asked why I told them back issues. I then told the people I work along side with after my 12 week scan. But 15 weeks is generally what the law says.

Thanks for your replies ladies. That's very interesting re the 15 week rule! I can't believe my employer makes such a big thing of 'needing to know asap' re pregnancy (especially as it's a desk job).

I shall hold off until I'm back and into the swing of things.
