Hello,

I haver been lurking for a while and thought I'd be brave and seek your thoughts.
I have my 12 week scan on Wednesday and am dreading it. I am convinced something will have happened to the baby.
I had some very light spotting (dark brown) at 8 weeks and was referred to epau for a scan which showed all was well. I did begin to relax a bit after this. Then at 11 weeks there was red blood when I wiped after going to the loo. I spoke to the O&G doctor at the hospital ( I was at work at the hospital at the time) thinking that they would put me on the list for monday ( it was friday) the lovely doc examined me before she went home and took some swabs and a blood test. She said it looked like my cervix was possibly slightly open which obviously is not good. I obviously had a pretty shitty Friday night! The same doctor called me on the Saturday and said that a doc could squeeze me in for a scan that day ( I think they felt sorry for me as expecting bed news) the scan showed a moving baby with heart beat! We were thrilled! The blood is still there when I wipe, it has stopped for a day or two then started again a couple of times now and I just can't let myself think that all is ok only to have our hopes shattered at the scan o Wednesday. I am worried that I may become detached from the baby in order to try and protect myself. I still have not had the swab results- will the me have these? Or do I need to see my GP? I have spoken to my MW about this (though not in such depth) and she says I need to wait till scan which is reasonable and bleeding can be harmless but obviously sometimes this is not the case. I also wonder whether I may be able to have a scan between 12 and 20 weeks as I may be insane by then!
Just to add I ha en not had any pain at all and the blood is only when I wipe, nothing at aleast on a pad.
Sorry for such a long ramble but it's good to get it off my chest!
Any thoughts or anybody have similar experience?

Thank you x

Hi, I had bleeding/spotting at regular intervals up to 20 weeks. It is very common but I remember how scared I was at the time. My baby was born fine. Best of luck - hope your scan goes well.

NurseP · 11/01/2015 21:59

Thanks for your reply. I hope so muchtthat the scan is fine and the bleeding stops. I guess the worst thing is that if anything happens so early on that nothing can be done. Just hope I can stop worrying and start to allow myself to excitedly await a healthy baby in July. X

To be honest I didn't enjoy my pregnancy until I could feel the kicks and movements which was so reassuring. I am quite small so it happened around 14 weeks. You can go for a private scan between 12 and 20 weeks for reassurance.

Thank you, I will have a private scan if I can't have an NHS one. Do you think the sonographer may be able to see ant cause of bleeding at the scan?
Lottie- I think I will be the same and nor relax until I can feel movement and kicks.
SBCat- thanks for the vibes!

Xx

I had a big bleed with my DS at 13 weeks (like first day of a heavy period), everything was fine. I was told at the time that bleeding was much more common than most women realise and that it's pain(which doesn't go with 2 paracetamol) that's the real cause for concern. When I had the scan to check everything was ok the sonographer identified a small area of my uterus lining on the edge of the placenta that had come away causing the bleeding, so they can sometimes give you a reason but equally she said they sometimes can't. Best of luck for Wednesday. I've got my 12 weeks scan tomorrow and I'll be very nervous over the next couple of weeks after what happened last time, despite everything turning out ok. I think it's normal to be a bit worried.

NurseP · 12/01/2015 11:38

Hope all is well Nicky. Was the separation from the lining serious? It's all such a worry! Can't believe people do the more than once!! Thanks for your input. X

OP posts:
NickyEds · 12/01/2015 13:59

No not at all serious as it was only a tiny part. The sonographer described it as "just a bit of fraying around the edge"Hmm. DS is now one and is doing great.

NurseP · 12/01/2015 17:25

Fraying?! Sounds like it needed a trim! Hmm

I'm sure you're feeling slightly more reassured from others posts but wanted to add that my sister also had bleeding for quite some time with both her pregnancies and her children are now 7 and 3. From early on so convinced the was having an early MC and then reappeared again some months later. Very worrying but all was ok. They did see a cyst on one of her ovaries in her first PG but they wouldn't say for sure it was that that caused the bleeding. HTH xx

NurseP · 13/01/2015 22:19

Thanks iwonderif. It dies help to hear others good news stories but still can't lety self think all is well in till I see the scan tomorrow. It would be good of they could say what is causing the bleeding as that would at least help me not think OMG MC! !! Every time I see a spot. Only time will tell. Fingers crossed for tomorrow!
I really appreciate people taking the time.to post. Smile

good luck today. i have had bleeding in all of my pregnancies. dd (my first) i had pain and bleeding at 5 weeks then at 28 weeks i had a massive bleed which turned out to be a polyp on the cervix then just before ds i had a very early mc then when pregnant with ds had spotting after dtd a lot. with this baby i had pain but no blood at 6 weeks then gushing at 9 weeks (scan at 9+3 showed healthy baby) then spotting constantly or 2 weeks (scan at 11+5 showed still healthy baby but a empty sack behind it Sad ) had a lot of blood and bit of liquid at 22 weeks and doctor at epas said it was an eroaion on my cervix and sent me for a scan to check waters were intact (scan showed still happy healthy baby) they are tough little things hope everyrhing is well with your baby. ive had 6 scans so far another 2 to go and i still get nervous when i go for a scan. dont think i will relax until hes here safe in my arms ive had rather a rough time this time around. hope all is fine but just wanted to let ou kno bleeding doesnt always mean its all going wrong

NurseP · 14/01/2015 12:03

Thanks theonlyone, I hope to be able to relax a bit after today's scan if all is well. I canyt believe people do this more than once! I have been lucky and not very symptomatic but all this worry! Sheesh! Never again. Ever.
