plus size maternity clothes

Where oh where can I get maternity clothes from? I'm a 22/24 and all I've found is so expensive! I can't afford to buy when I'll only be wearing for a few months. Not planning to buy much but I'd really like a pair of jeans as I live in jeans! I'm tall too which doesn't help!

god i remember this as being really difficult-i can't believe that ten years later things haven't improved.
i think you are not supposed to reproduce if you are over a size 16[cross]

right-george at asda have stuff up to a size 24 i think

I'm the same size as you and at 17+4 I'm still in my normal clothes, thankfully. I've got a few tops from Yours that are incredibly roomy for later, and I may invest in one of those belly bands for wearing with trousers/jeans so I don't have to buy maternity ones.

I'm hoping, possibly naively, that I can just wing this without having to buy ridiculously expensive gear! I don't wear anything tight anyway and practically live in leggings and long loose tops and dresses. But I have found this page quite informative :)

I'm 34+6, and i was also a size 22/24 prepreg. I'm still wearing ordinary tops they are just a little stretched over bump but look fine. I bought some black trousers from Evans that are stretchy and feel like joggers to wear but look like normal formal trousers - I went up to a size 28 (trouser normally size24), so they come up over bump and because of the stretchy material they sit fine on my legs. That's it for me.

Oh and sleep bra wise (if you leak in pregnancy or are going to bf you'll probably need one) - I've found mothercare do a double pack of a plain grey and a red/cream stripe in a size 20 that comes up big (accommodates my GG/H boobs, as well as being fine around the band).

how about looking at ebay at a style called 'lagen' look, its very European and big and baggy, but I think its really stylish, and also, it looks fab worn baggy after baby comes too... with leggings, boot etc...

I wear a lot of it (size 20 and way too old for pregnancy!) but my daughter wears mine and she is 30 weeks now and looks lush in it, I might never get it back!

lmb21010 · 11/01/2015 12:13

Thank you all. Found lovely stuff in New look but only up to 18! I've lost 3st since being pregnant so I'm hoping to lose more and get into smaller clothes but I'm starting to grow already (13+4) summer by so at least I'll get away with stretchy/floaty dresses

H&m and matalan both go up to size 20 and Next goes up higher.

I think Boden go up to size 22 and whilst I wouldn't buy from them full price, you can find the odd thing on eBay.

MrsCrankypants · 11/01/2015 14:50

Next maternity is good and I find their sizes quite big. Maybe you could see if you can get anything in their sale? Dorothy Perkins and Bonprix also do larger sizes too.

misdee · 11/01/2015 14:54

George at asda has been great for me this time

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 11/01/2015 15:05

I gave up on jeans, and went for leggings and tunics or dresses. I found the over the bump jeans digged in where the jeans stop and the stretchy fabric begins. I bought maternity vest tops and a couple of dresses and that was it. I got stuff from amazon, asda, and new look. I was pregnant when it was really hot so lived in dresses and cropped leggings, more difficult in close weather, thou a big wrap or a poncho is good instead of a coat

Meplusyouequals4 · 11/01/2015 15:37

Bon prix do nice clothes it's online only. I got my winter coat from there an a couple of tops.

I bought pant extenders for my jeans so I'm now nearly 35 weeks and still wearing my prepregnancy jeans

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 11/01/2015 15:43

I was going to say next. The maternity stuff comes up huge
Or always used to. I was a 22 8yrs ago and the next 20 maternity clothing was too big.
Mothercare came up big too, especially the skirts and trousers with the large elasticated panels in.

Gap do an xl which I'm sure is a 22/20. I think simply be and very do maternity wear as well.

fraggle84 · 11/01/2015 16:09

Another vote for next, look in the clearance section on their website as theres often maternity bits in there.

I found h&m to be good and also mothercare

Way2Tired · 11/01/2015 16:36

lmb21010 i hear ya... i was 22/24 pre pregancy and now I hit 24+ ...the only place i could find affordable ( more or less ) was bonprix. i got myself a pair of jeans, a pair of office trousers, a pair of corduroy trousers, one pregnancy blouse ( the type that goes ok in and out of work too ) and something called loungewear suit ( cami + hoodie + trousers ) - which btw became my favorite outfit once LO reached week 32-33.
other than that i only got the maternity bra , and for the rest i stuck to my "normal" clothes. some are tight atm , but I can still manage. considering the prices sellers ask for plus size pregnancy clothes I really don't want to buy stuff which I can only wear few months in my life.

Really lovely clothes at daisyinbloom.uk . I brought the dress and a couple of the tunics which cover everything they should! They also do a really nice nightie and dressing gown which I used in hospital.

Long Tall Sally do one pair of jeans and one type of leggings. I bought both and have lived in them since. I feel your pain though.

scarednoob · 01/06/2015 07:51

Simply be - whilst they don't have
Maternity wear as such, they go up to a size 32 in most things, so you can get some cheap pretty floaty tops and then maternity leggings or jeans from asda. I got a couple of dresses for work, just bought a size. 26 instead of usual. I would never normally wear stuff like that, as I have a big fat tummy and enormous bust but tiny bum/slim legs, so dresses make me look like a barrel perched on 2 pipe cleaners! Anyway, everybody bloody loves the dresses, never had so many compliments, and they were between £10 and £30 each I think.

Bellabutterfly2014 · 01/06/2015 18:46

I'm a size 16top 18 bottom and I've just bought some bits from Peacocks; cheap and cheerful but do the job and haven't broken the bank to buy them.

They go up to a size 22 in the shops (not sure about online) but the sizes are very generous x
