I've got a wayfarer for when baby arrives I've got it all set up (buggy board and all) it feels a dream to push.

Whats making you unsure?

ShanghaiDoll · 06/01/2015 08:29

Another Wayfarer buyer over here. I also managed to get the Simplicity car seat included for free.

When we were looking at the two models we were told that the difference (and an extra £100!) between the two models is the size of the back wheels and the thickness of the frame of the chassis underneath.

If I can help in any way, let me know.

Meplusyou I didn't realise you could put a buggy board on it. Good to know if we decide on no. 2.

We have the pioneer for ds (6 months) and I love it. It probably depends how much walking you intend to do. I walk everywhere and am not sure the wayfarer would cope so well with bumpy pavements etc. We've also taken it along country lanes and tracks and it's coped (although obviously not designed to be an offroader) which the wayfarer definitely wouldn't have done.

The only main con is that it's a bit of a beast to fit in the boot (and I had to buy a cheap stroller for the bus).

For us it was definitely worth the extra money!

bellaboo88 · 06/01/2015 09:48

Pioneer is just updated version of wayfarer. Ive got pioneer & love it (although baby's still cooking). Best bet is to read reviews for both & go test drive them.

I prefer the newer wheel style x

Meplusyouequals4 · 06/01/2015 10:02

Shanghaidoll I've got the lascal maxi on it, dd has to stand inside the handles but that doesn't matter I suppose.

There is a deal on at mothercare for the wayfarer at the min which is the chassis, carrycot, seat unit, car seat plus adapters and colour pack (the deal I got) for £500 the pioneer the car seat is sold separately and its an extra £120

Murphy29 · 06/01/2015 10:07

We've got the pioneer and love it. For us it was definitely worth the extra as we also have a dog so do big walks through parks etc and felt the wayfarer wheels were a but flimsy for that. Also, don't underestimate the benefit of the bigger basket!

What colour are you thinking of? That was the hardest decision I thought!

Wineandchoccy · 06/01/2015 10:17

We have bought the silver cross Pioneer as we preferred the chassis, we live in the country so thought it would be better than the wayfarer.

We bought it from the Silver Cross outlet shop in Bradford for £400 instead of £600. If you google babycare bradford it will take you to there outlet shop, they have an ebay shop if you are nowhere near Bradford to collect.

They have the wayfarer as well at a reduced price but I can't remember how much it was.

Rustyzilla · 06/01/2015 13:59

I've been looking at the Wayfarer. Meplusyou, can I ask where you got the deal including the car seat for £500? I can't see that offered on Mothercare's website? Thanks

Meplusyouequals4 · 06/01/2015 14:25

It's an in store offer. I got mine just before Xmas and the woman said it was running till the end of Jan

Rustyzilla · 06/01/2015 16:04

Thanks, that's really interesting. I shall investigate!

sleepybee · 06/01/2015 17:32

I've just ordered the pioneer - I went for the more sturdy wheels as we do lots of walking. I got the matching car seat in purple.

D0nnaO · 06/01/2015 17:37

I suppose it depends on what you'll use it for really. We go walking with the dog quite a lot so the pioneer was the better option for us Smile

zebrapig · 06/01/2015 18:54

My pioneer in chilli got delivered this morning Grin Gutted that I'm not home until Thurs evening to play with it Hmm

curlysuzieq · 03/03/2015 16:07

So in your personal opinion, do you recommend the Silver Cross Pioneer for off road walking?

We too have a dog and often take her through fields, down by the river so along uneven surfaces which may in places have gravel, broken branches etc. Therefore I need a pram which can survive regular, more adventurious walking than just to the shops and back.

There doesn't seem to be many reviews out there for the Pioneer which either talk of this kind of use or aren't hijacked by bad reviews of the Wayfarer!

croon979 · 03/03/2015 19:47

I have gone for pioneer. Thought the bigger wheels and basket were more practical

bradders85 · 03/03/2015 20:17

I've gone for the pioneer too - although not used yet as baby due in April - I thought the wheels looked more sturdy and the pram is lighter than the wayfarer even with a bigger basket.

Rosieliveson · 04/03/2015 19:19

I've had the wayfarer for 18 months. We are still using it most days and have been really pleased with it. Roads, parks, grass etc all fine. I'd recommend it Grin

Sindie93 · 19/02/2019 21:21

Which buggy board did you use iff you don't mind me asking Meplusyouequals4 ? Looking for one at the minute as baby2 is due in 2 weeks!

Bunnybaubles · 20/02/2019 14:40

I've got the silver cross Brompton, basically the Pioneer with a fancy coat. Bought it for DD who is 8 months now.

If I could change it I would, it looks beautiful but it doesn't cope at all with lowered curbs - or any uneven surface.

After about 10 weeks I only used the maxi cosi i-size car seat on the chassis as having to dismantle it and fit it all in the car was a nightmare. The buggie part also has to be dismantled from the chassis when putting it in the car.

I wish i bought the Mamas and Pappas pram which folded down in 1, no dismantling. The pram part changed into the buggie so no separate parts and it got much better reviews.

Everyone is different tho, and it does depend on what you use it for, types of surfaces you will push it on, and whether you're dragging it in and out of a car etc. But definitely research independent reviews to death. I saw all the bad reviews but couldn't see past the lovely design 😁

Muddytoes1 · 20/02/2019 14:47

I have the pioneer and if I’m honest really don’t rate it at all. I, like you bought it for its supposedly off road abilities but other than short cut dry grass it really struggled. The wheels caught in every tiny bump even a cm high pavement lip and this really irritated me. It is a beautiful pushchair with a huuge basket but I dislike it to the point where we’ll be getting something else for number 2. Sounds like others have had better experiences than us though so maybe you’ll get on with it fine. Friends with proper off road pushchairs seem to have proper inflated wheels that can handle the bumps better.

needanappp · 20/02/2019 19:50

It depends what you need. The pioneer is bulkier because the chassis is more robust, wheels are bigger and so is the shopping basket.

We got the pioneer because I don't drive so would be using the pram a lot and also LOVED the bigger shopping basket - needed it!

It was difficult to get in our boot though as it is a big pram but I loved it.

Jess7cw · 04/03/2019 17:41

We’ve gone for the pioneer simply because we live in the country and walk lots so the wheels are better, both look gorgeous
