Drank over limit?

gabrielle1201 · 31/12/2014 22:35

I had a few drinks and had 750ml of west coast coller (4%) will this effect my baby? Only drank it once now and didn't even realise tbh how much I had. Any advice would be grateful xx

OP posts:

The reason I don't worry about doing everything by the book is I know if I had a still birth it wouldn't be my fault. Wasn't yours either black widow Flowers
Won't be related to the OP drinking that amount in the unlikely event anything should happen to her x

diddlediddledumpling · 01/01/2015 17:27

I'm sorry for the loss of your ds, black.
I don't think that excuses comments designed to make someone else feel a bit rubbish, though. Lots of us have experienced a loss.

expectantmum79 · 01/01/2015 17:27

It's tragic that your son was stillborn Blackwidow. I'm sorry for your loss.

The OP didn't ask to be told off for what she knows was a mistake that's probably why she was asking strangers.

I'm sure the one off drinking session won't do any harm. I had a glass of wine last night and it was lovely.

There is too much pregnancy guilt floating around. If getting angry, upset is bad for the baby we'd have all done them harm as the old wives tales say. Women weight train throughout pregnancy, they lift their toddlers without thinking when once they'd have been counselled to not lift a napkin even the mention of the word 'confinement' is Victorian to me.

diddlediddledumpling · 01/01/2015 17:29

or what eltonjohn said, much more sensitively than me.
I'm so sorry if my post comes across as flippant, I really do sympathiseBlush .

blackwidow74 · 01/01/2015 17:30

I wasn't judging ... just by the info given by the OP there was more alcohol consumed before the 750ml bottle and the only reason she stopped there was because she felt sick ... points some people seemed to skip over yet jump on me for giving my honest thought.

I wish the OP well regardless with the rest of her pregnancy :)

NancyRaygun · 01/01/2015 17:31

Your personal experience is clouding your judgement though blackwidow. Although I csn see it must be hard when you feel someone is bring careless, when you were not. Flowers OP Drinking a larger amount than advised is not ideal perhaps but I can see that at something like a NYE party it is easily done. I personally wouldn't give it another thought OP. Don't worry. BE happy.

BathshebaDarkstone · 01/01/2015 17:33

I haven't been on here long, but I already wonder where MN would be without sanctimonious twattery! Xmas Grin

GraysAnalogy · 01/01/2015 17:34

Flushing it out with water wouldn't really stop anything because it's the alcohol content in your blood that's important.

However you don't have anything to worry about, it should be perfectly fine OP

merlehaggard · 01/01/2015 17:39

I really can't see how it's easily done. When I've been pregnant I've always been very aware of every unit of alcohol that has passed my lips. As I have every paracetamol etc. When pregnant I can agree that on NYE it is easily done. No one is slating the OP. Whilst I'm relatively sure that the alcohol she has consumed will not cause any problems, the truth of it is, no one can really be sure and that is why pregnant people are advised not to take any chances.

merlehaggard · 01/01/2015 17:40

When NOT pregnant.....

fruitpastille · 01/01/2015 18:03

I read it as just 750ml of 4% alcohol - really a very small amount even compared to the quite arbitrary guidelines given in this country. No need for any guilt!

BTW paracetamol is fine to take in pregnancy although it doesn't help much with broken bones I discovered.

merlehaggard · 01/01/2015 18:08

Yeah, I'm sure the majority of us worry unnecessarily. In my first pregnancy I had really bad indigestion and was too worried to even take Renee, although realised with later pregnancies that it was ok! On my 3rd, my pregnancy was unplanned and I take steroids and other medication for a long term health condition. I worried continually about that until the baby was born healthy.

Eltonjohnsflorist · 01/01/2015 19:04

Yy you can take as much paracetamol as though not pregnant (although I did choose to go without for 1st tri)

weelamb123 · 01/01/2015 19:16

Yes, I agree one or two wont harm baby. Its only excessive drinking that would cos real harm, although I wouldn't recommend drinking daily. I personally cant even stomach the thot of alcohol but I'm sure that will change the further on I get! Xx

MuffinMcLay23 · 01/01/2015 19:51

I think black widow was reasonable to highlight how surprising it is to be unaware of how much you've drunk when you are pregnant, regardless of her own experience, and calling her a twat for pointing it out is just offensive. I've reported that post to MN although no doubt black widow doesn't need me sticking up for her.
I've had a small glass of wine a couple of times a week towards the end of my current pregnancy so I don't advocate abstaining altogether but I am v careful to measure out exactly how much I have and check the ABV % before drinking anything. I think to drink a whole 750ml bottle of something, apparently without knowing how much alcohol was in it, or bothering to check, is pretty irresponsible.

Eltonjohnsflorist · 01/01/2015 20:20

I didn't know what west coast cooler is so googled and it looks like a schlor type drink but very lightly alcoholic. Maybe OP drank it not realising of had alcohol in it, of maybe it was so easy to drink, like a fizzy drink, it just went. Either way since the whole bottle is. 3 units does it matter? OP wouldn't necessarily be unable to track am entire bottle of wine or pints of lager in the same way

GlitzAndGigglesx · 01/01/2015 22:31

But op said she had a few drinks AND that other one. Hardly makes us twats for not seeing how you can't realise what you've drunk Hmm. You're really not allowed a different opinion on mn without being criticised for it. Shocking

diddlediddledumpling · 01/01/2015 22:43

the op was criticised for not keeping track of her alcohol consumption. Some people then criticised the criticisers.
its the nature of an internet forum; you express an opinion, people can disagree with you.

blackwidow74 · 01/01/2015 23:28

I didn't criticise her for not keeping track of how much she drank ... I merely asked why it took for her to feel sick before she thought about how much she drank ... but you know what ... If you are ok with drinking till you puke at 6 months gone knock yourself out ... ! You see the OP posting about being criticised? Ever thought she may not actually be for real and was just poking the hive for a reaction?

GlitzAndGigglesx · 01/01/2015 23:30

She asked for advice. Advice isn't always what you want to hear

Eltonjohnsflorist · 01/01/2015 23:42

I don't think she's been told what she doesn't want to hear. Reassured, if anything.

4% spritzer (3.3 units) isn't drinking until you puke. If she felt sick it's clear it wasn't from drinking until she puked

diddlediddledumpling · 01/01/2015 23:49

I'm referring to the assertion that "you can't have a different opinion on mn without being criticised for it. Shocking."
are you really shocked that on an internet forum, there's disagreement?
And it's exaggerating a bit to talk about someone 'drinking til they puked' A bottle of West Coast Cooler isn't like a bottle of vodka.

Eltonjohnsflorist · 01/01/2015 23:52

Yes I agree with both points. Not sure what the people disagreeing are disagreeing about but prob not worth me wasting my time trying to understand :)

Plateofcrumbs · 02/01/2015 03:28

I assume (based on later posts) the OP meant "I had a few drinks which amounted to 750ml of 4% ABV". Which is perhaps very slightly above recent guideline amounts but only very slightly, and as a one-off really nothing to get knickers in a twist about, especially at 6months.

LittlePeasMummy1 · 02/01/2015 14:40

Here is a leaflet about drinking in pregnancy including information on the effects of different amounts. Hope this helps.
