Hi debbsy, sounds horrible! Can you possibly go on maternity leave earlier (38 weeks quite late really)? I went off at 33 weeks with no.1, just too tired to cope anymore. I think there are some herbal things you can take for insomnia, I'll have a look & post again if I can find anything. Maybe work that's keeping you up, do you find insomnia better at weekends? No brilliant advice, except I've heard that spatone (I think that's how you spell it) can be good for energy & can be taken in pg so I'm going to my local pharmacy tomorrow & getting some! Are your iron levels ok? I have no useful suggestions really as unfortunately late pg is just bl**dy exhausting. I did find it more so first time round and even then I wasn't working full-time. Hope the insomnia improves soon, it's a curse isn't it?

Insomnia is just a bit much on top of normal pg exhaustion, but seems v.common (loads of people in the dec thread have been suffering). I do know what you mean about work, but honestly people will manage without you if they have to. Once you're away from it, it doesn't seem so important anymore! I know you've waited a long time for your bean, if you have extra pamper time at home preparing for him, you'll never regret it...those last few weeks waiting for my ds to arrive were bliss really although leaving at 33 weeks a bit premature as he was 2 weeks late...

How're you today debbsy? Get any more sleep? I couldn't sleep last night either, so slept in the spare room - seems to break the cycle, perhaps you could try that?

hiya, I suffered really badly with insomnia with ds1, you have my full sympathy, its so infuriating, and the more cross you get the less you can sleep!!! I have found with this pregnancy that if i cant sleep, putting on the light and reading something for half an hour really helps as it stops me thinking about whatevers keeping me awake and its much easier to get back to sleep afterwards. HOpe youre feeling better.

That sounds great debbsy, can you go every night?
I find yoga helps me sleep better, but have felt too tired to do it for so long, I'm sure if I wound down I'd sleep better. When my dp had dreadful insomnia last year, we were given a list of mental exercises to try - it engages the other side of your brain or something. E.g. think of an animal for each letter of the alphabet, try to navigate round a house you used to live in, or an art gallery you like etc in your head. Kind of like counting sheep but forces you to focus on something other than 'I want to sleep'. Those logic puzzle books before bed also seem to help me, must do one tonight!
