I don't like my midwife

Had an appointment with my midwife today. It's the second time I've seen her as initially there was a stand in midwife.

Wasn't keen on her last time. She told me off for forgetting my urine sample, but didn't give me a chance to nip to the loo to do one.

Saw her again today and I really dislike her. After testing my urine it was given back to me. Wtf? I thought they had clinical bins for that. She then listened to the baby's heartbeat and both this time and last didn't provide any tissues for me to wipe off the gel with.

It was all very rushed and impersonal. The last thing she said to me was that I'd already had whooping cough jab so didn't need one. I said that I thought I needed another even tho youngest Ds is only 16 months. She then said that she didn't think I did but to check with reception. I checked and I was right. It's a bit worrying that if I was less assertive or clued up then I wouldn't have got this jab.

Do you think I'd be unreasonable to ask to see someone else as I don't trust her knowledge?

Microbiologist or not, I won't be tipping urine down my sink any time soon!

GingerbreadPudding · 17/12/2014 17:35

Every midwife I've ever seen has given me my wee back. I assumed it was normal practice, although I have no idea why I'd want it back!

Your call, it's your sink. I would think twice about washing my face and brushing my teeth in the bathroom if that bothers you though, with all the faecal matter floating around in the air. (did you know every time you flush the loo is creates an aerosol of your waste that coats everything in the room, including your tooth brush!) But then that is what we have an immune system for after all!

Izzy24 · 17/12/2014 17:57

Yes I did know. That's what loo lids are for .

OttiliaVonBCup · 17/12/2014 18:02

I don't suppose you ever wee in the shower, Izzy.

MrsLovell · 17/12/2014 18:05

Might reduce it, doesn't stop it! And I'm guessing you wash your hands after the loo in the same sink you brush your teeth and wash your face in, washing the bacteria off your hands into it... Seriously there is no need to be so squeemish about wee.

Izzy24 · 17/12/2014 18:05

My lips are sealed .

WrappedInABlankie · 17/12/2014 18:11

Mine chuck it in the bin or down the sink

MuffinMcLay23 · 17/12/2014 19:06

It always annoys me when people don't understand what does and doesn't pose a health risk on the hygiene front and then act like other people are somehow disgusting/have low standards because of their own ignorance.
There is nothing wrong with rinsing a bit of wee down your sink - wee isn't that dirty!
I bet you do loads of things that are WAY more disgusting than washing wee down the sink, like using a dishcloth that you don't boil wash after every use, or using wooden chopping boards, or a plastic washing up bowl, or touching door handles/taps in public loos for instance....all much germier than a bit of your own wee!

BinarySolo · 17/12/2014 19:32

Oh Lordy! I've accidentally created wee thread!

You're never more than two posts away from a good wee thread on MN.

Jodie1982 · 17/12/2014 21:44

Why not tip the pee down the Loo and just wash the pot in the bathroom sink? I wouldn't tip it into my kitchen sink. Hmm
