health insurance.. whats it cover?

Hi,
I apparently have health insurance through my husband's work. Never used it and not really sure what situations it covers in terms of pregnancy.

I'm planning a homebirth, and tho I'm happy with the nhs midwife I've seen I feel she's a bit nervous/ risk averse for homebirth and I understand a private midwife would likely be more experienced / confident / reassuring in homebirth. Private midwife wouldn't be covered by insurance by any chance?

What things could health insurance cover?

Also going for nhs growth scan as advised by midwife. Would a private one have been covered? I presume extra ones for reassurance, not advised for medical reasons, are not.

If it's a UK based policy it probably doesn't cover pregnancy at all. If it's an international policy it might cover everything.

You need to check I'm afraid, there will be wide variances in what could be covered. However, it's unlikely that pregnancy will be if, as said above, it's a regular UK policy; it rarely is, in standard off the shelf company policies.

Mine didn't cover anything apart from complications post birth (so I saw a specialist for some undercarriage issues).

If you are having growth scans as advised by the nhs is there a reason you need these covering by insurance? I think you need to dig out the policy docs/ring the provider.

Thanks, I think probably right that won't be much (anything) covered. Doesnt matter, I wasn't counting on it , just curious if there's any options. I think if, and fingers crossed not, there are any complications or ongoing issues then I may look into it.

I work in this field for one of the major uk pmi providers and sorry to be blunt but nothing relating to child birth is covered other than a moderate lump sum following the birth but even that isn't on many plans. Definitely call your provider though just to be certain.

The NHS mw you've seen so far may not be the one who comes out for a homebirth, depending on shifts etc.
