Christmas present for pregnant wife - Spa?

Hi, my wife is going to be approx 14 weeks pregnant at Xmas and I am trying to think of a nice present for her. Does any one have any good ideas?

I have seen some suggestions of Spa treatments. Can anyone suggest a good spa which is either in SW London or central London? Are there any treatments in particular that are highly recommended?

Thanks in advance.

Whilst it is a lovely idea make sure whatever you book is suitable for pregnant women. Spa days whilst lovely normally can be a bit limiting if you cannot use the jacuzzi, steam room etc. and some treatments/oils are not suitable for pregnant women. That said some pampering whilst pregnant is a great present as one the baby is there she will get hardly a minute to herself.

Don't get a spa day.

I went on a spa day when about 12 weeks pregnant. Couldn't do anything at the spa - not even the hot tub or sauna, let alone treatments.

Of she enjoys facials maybe a course at a local salon? Can recommend one in Ewell

Definitely not spa.
I would get tickets for the two of you to go to something together - theatre or concert. Once baby arrives that kind of thing doesn't happen often.

CaptainMorgansMistress · 01/12/2014 17:49

A spa day that she can use once baby has arrived and everyone has settled in might be an idea - with the promise of you looking after the baby of course while she (and a friend?) have a nice day?

ShatnersBassoon · 01/12/2014 17:50

No, not a spa day. I was given one when I was pregnant. I had to wait until I'd had the baby to make reasonable use of it, but then I was still wobbly-tummied and was leaking milk everywhere. It wasn't enjoyable at all. A salon treatment might be better.

I dont recommend spa either

there are so many things which are not recommended to do, I fould it very complicated and gave up on any massages, especilly since the place I wanted to go did not offer specally certified staff for pregnancy massages and I did not trust regular terapist.

Also preganancy massage is done in sitting or lying on the side and that just did not appeal to me at all.

Maybe posh afternoon tea - perhaps for after baby is born so she can get out of the house for a bit & enjoy a glass of bubbly.

Threeplus1 · 01/12/2014 17:53

Some spas do specific pregnancy packages that include things like specialized massages (with safe oils), mani/pedis, facials and lunch included. And it's perfectly safe and beneficial to swim in the pool. I think it's a lovely idea... Google should bring up plenty of options for pregnancy packages.

Arlagirl · 01/12/2014 17:55

Or a pedicure course....Hand and Foot salon in Wimbledon village and Richmond are excellent.

I'd love a pregnancy massage but maybe separate from a spa day! Or a hair appointment would be nice! I think Q hotels do them if there is one in your area

Aren't you a total sweetheart!

Just echo what the other ladies have said, a general spa day probably no use unless they do a special maternity package. However I am secretly hoping for a specialised pregnancy massage and maybe a luxury pedicure in my stocking this year...

strawberry1202 · 01/12/2014 19:04

A pregnancy specific massage is a lovely idea (I've just had one at 30 weeks and it was great) as opposed to a spa day which, as others have said, would be a bit of a waste. There are some spas in london which have specially adapted beds so you can lie on your front with the bump supported which, after months of lying on your side, sounds worth paying for in itself. I think the spa at the K West hotel in shepherds bush has one of these, although I haven't been so I don't know how good the actual treatments are.

smogsville · 01/12/2014 21:05

Go for a properly posh long foot massage she will get to lie down for ages and there's nothing like a foot massage and they're safe in preg (although tell them when booking just to be sure). ARK in Putney is good.

I'm 17wks pregnant and would love a spa day as a Christmas gift! Massage, splash in the pool, mani/pedi, cake, lie on pool lounger reading book - bliss!

Elledouble · 01/12/2014 21:43

My partner got me a special antenatal massage for my birthday last month (I was about 17 weeks). It was really lovely. He's offered me another one for Christmas - I'm SO achey now at just shy of 20 weeks, so I'm excited already.

Chatty987 · 01/12/2014 22:36

K West Hotel & Spa do some lovely maternity treatments. You don't need to do spa day there/use facilities. Perhaps book just one of their treatments and a nice lunch/afternoon tea.

My hubby booked stay for my bday in a Hotel du Vin which was lovely...afternoon tea there and stay in one of their spacious rooms to chill out.

Good luck...you're being very thoughtful!

dayspringjubilee · 02/12/2014 13:02

Afternoon tea and maybe a manicure or facial is perfect. Spas are really difficult in pregnancy, but how wonderful that you are thinking of ways for her to feel pampered - it really helps. And I would also second the theatre trips if she's into that sort of thing, I've been trying to pack in all the shows I can! Good for you, stay just that thoughtful and it will make her pregnancy so much easier and more pleasant.
