Measuring big

I'm 27+3 weeks. Just back from midwife and I'm measuring 4 cm too big. She's going to arrange a scan and also see what my blood sugar levels are like.

Realised I forgot to ask what this might all mean. What if baby is big? What causes that? What's the worst that can happen? Should I start doing anything about it now e.g. diet?

I have been a bit lax with diet and exercise recently with pressures at work and exhaustion. Feel quite guilty if this is doing harm to baby.

Have you had a GTT? Don't worry, it could be extra fluid or just a big baby! Mine is a whopper, but I keep being assured that it'll still be able to get out Shock I'm 35 weeks and baby measured about 3 weeks ahead on both my growth scans. It happens.

I remember measuring a few weeks ahead at 28 weeks. A different midwife saw me to the usual community midwife, and by the next appointment things were back on track and stayed on track. So, it was either a case of the other midwife using a different measuring technique, or baby had a growth spurt and then plateaued again. Judging by the stretch marks that erupted around then, I think it was probably the latter.

Thanks.
If my blood sugar comes back high (will know in the next few days) I'll have a GTT. I do feel that bump has grown a lot over the past few days. Just worried that it's something I've done.

Well you could cut down on sugar and fatty food, but sometimes babies are just big.

I measured 42 weeks at my 38 week appointment (at 37+6). The midwife started talking about diabetes and early induction and really panicked me. Was referred to a specialist who I saw on Monday. The specialist took several measurements and measured me at 40 weeks which is only just over a week ahead so I didn't need an extra scan. She basically told me that it looked like the midwife hadn't measured correctly. It seems like a lot of human error creeps into these measurements. Also as people are different shapes and sizes then so are our babies. Try not to worry :)
